    • Decent in no-decision
Cortes allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Cortes allowed multiple runs for the first time in three starts, but it was still a passable outing for the southpaw. He allowed a total of nine runs (eight earned) over 29 innings across five starts in May while adding a 30:8 K:BB in that span. Cortes is at a 3.30 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 71 innings over 12 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in San Francisco. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:55 pm
    • Nestor Cortes holds Angels to two runs over 5 1/3
Nestor Cortes was uninvolved in the decision Tuesday after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels.

Advice: The key for Cortes this season is simply to allow zero earned runs. He’s 3-0 when that happens and 0-4 the rest of the time. It’s something he’ll just have to work on prior to his start against the Giants on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
    • Raisel Iglesias nails down 13th save in win
Raisel Iglesias threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in a 2-0 win over the Nationals on Tuesday.

Advice: Iglesias struck out two and didn’t allow a hit as he picked up his 13th save of the season. He doesn’t get the respect that other elite closers get, but Iglesias has been one of the most reliable options in fantasy baseball for a while now. He has a 2.21 ERA on the season and figures to remain near the league-leaders in saves as the season goes on. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:05 pm
    • Stuck with loss Sunday
Schmidt (5-3) took the loss Sunday against the Padres after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

Advice: Schmidt took a tough-luck loss in a game during which he took a shutout into the sixth inning. The first two batters in the frame would reach via an error and a walk before Schmidt turned things over to the bullpen. From there, Victor Gonzalez would allow both inherited runners to score. Schmidt registered a solid 16 whiffs on the afternoon and has recorded six or more strikeouts in five straight starts. The 28-year-old is showing signs of a legit breakout campaign and will carry a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB (60.2 innings) into a projected matchup with the Giants this weekend. • Allows walk-off home run
Romano (1-2) suffered the loss to the Tigers on Sunday, yielding three earned runs on two hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: Romano was called upon to preserve an 11-11 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff single and an intentional walk before surrendering a walk-off three-run home run to Matt Vierling. The 31-year-old's ERA is now up to 6.39, although he is 7-for-8 in save chances through 15.1 innings this season, and he's allowed at least one run in six of 14 outings this season. • Clarke Schmidt strikes out six in loss to Padres
Clarke Schmidt pitched well in a losing effort against the Padres on Sunday afternoon, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits over his five-plus innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. All of the damage done against him came in the sixth inning, as Schmidt began the inning by allowing Jake Cronenworth to reach on an error and then issuing a walk to Manny Machado. He then turned the ball over to the bullpen who allowed both inherited runners to score. Schmidt got 16 swinging strikes on 101 pitches on the day — 10 of those on his cutter — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll carry an outstanding 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 67/20 K/BB ratio (60 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Giants in San Francisco. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:10 pm
    • Jordan Romano gives up three-run homer in loss
Jordan Romano gave up a three-run homer to Matt Vierling with two outs in the ninth to take a loss Sunday against the Tigers.

Advice: Romano came into a tie game in the bottom of the ninth, so one run would have ended this. Romano, though, wanted to make it special. The Jays busted out offensively for one of the few times this year, only to lose 14-11. Romano is still 7-for-8 saving games and isn’t in any danger of losing his job, even if Yimi García has looked far better this season. Of course, García also had his first big misstep today, giving up two runs in the eighth to take a blown save. Rotoworld Sunday, 12:27 pm

    • Allows nine hits in win
Montgomery (3-2) earned the win over the Marlins on Saturday, allowing two runs on nine hits and one walk over six innings while striking out four.

Advice: Montgomery didn't get off to a great start, surrendering a leadoff double to open the contest, followed by an RBI single off the bat of Josh Bell two batters later as the Marlins took an early 1-0 lead. However, the lefty would eventually find his groove, hurling 1-2-3 innings in the second and third before later coughing up one more run on a Jazz Chisholm double in the sixth. Montgomery has now gone at least six innings in five of his seven starts this season, though he's also allowed at least seven hits in four of those outings, including a season-high nine hits in Saturday's win. • Strong outing wasted
Severino came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 7-2 extra-inning loss to the Giants, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The right-hander pitched well enough to secure his third win of the season and left the mound with the Mets nursing a 2-1 lead, but Edwin Diaz blew another save in the ninth inning before the Mets' bullpen fell apart completely in the 10th. Severino settled for his fourth quality start instead, but he's been producing solid numbers in 2024 despite a 10.6 percent walk rate that would be the highest of his career if he can't rein it in. He'll take a 3.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 50:26 K:BB through 58.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:07 am
