It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Diaz, who'd allowed five runs (four earned) in his previous three appearances (2.1 innings) while taking a pair of losses and a blown save. The 27-year-old right-hander still sports a subpar 6.62 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB across 17.2 innings while going eight for 10 in save opportunities this season.       Alexis Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 2-0 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

      Advice: Díaz walked one and struck out one and then induced a game-ending double play. The save was his eighth of the season in what has been a tough year for Diaz. The 27-year-old has a 6.62 ERA and has blown two saves. The good news is that he’s not allowing lots of hard contact, but the bad news is that his command has wavered, leading to an increased walk rate and a huge reduction in his swinging strike rate.       Elly De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a win over the Padres on Tuesday.

      Advice: The double accounted for the only RBI of the game, but it wasn’t particularly well hit at just 86 mph off the bat. It was just one of those nights where neither offense seemed to get anything going. The bigger news for De La Cruz was that he didn’t strike out on Tuesday after going 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts in the final three games of the Dodgers’ series.       Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in the Guardians’ 7-6 win over the Mets on Tuesday.

      Advice: Clase allowed one hit and didn’t register a strikeout, but he got the job done for his league-leading 15th save.       Joe Ryan struck out six over seven shutout innings on Tuesday in a win over the Nationals.

      Advice: Ryan’s velocity was up across the board as his four-seam fastball had a little bit of extra life on it, which led to an impressive eight swinging strikes and a near-elite 39 percent CSW. He limited Washington’s lineup to just three hits and a pair of walks over seven stellar frames. The 27-year-old righty will bring a strong 3.15 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 64/9 K/BB ratio across 60 innings (10 starts) into a home outing on Monday against the division-rival Royals.       Luis Matos is batting third on Tuesday against the Pirates.

      Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin has bumped a sizzling-hot Matos up to the heart of the order for the first time this season. The 22-year-old former top prospect has batted a sublime .385 (10-for-26) with two homers and a staggering 16 RBI in seven contests since returning to the majors back on May 12.       Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) will have a follow-up exam on June 5, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: That will be the four-week mark of Encarnacion-Strand's projected 4-to-6 week timetable as he recovers from a fracture in his right wrist, so it would appear he's not going to make it back on the early side of that timeline.       Advice: Thomas has been on the injured list since near the end of April due to a sprained left MCL.
