    • Swipes second bag
Outman went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base Tuesday in a 10-2 win against the Giants.

Advice: Batting out of the No. 9 hole, Outman reached base twice for the first time since May 4 and knocked just his second extra-base hit since April 24. It's been a struggle for the outfielder in his sophomore MLB campaign, as he's slashing a meager .155/.256/.282 with three homers, 10 RBI, two steals and a 31.6 percent strikeout rate through 117 plate appearances. He's gone 2-for-22 with 10 punchouts over eight games in May. Rotowire.com Today, 10:09 am
    • Out against lefty
Keith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Keith will head to the bench for the second game in a row while the Tigers face off against another southpaw starter (Trevor Rogers). Andy Ibanez will spell Keith at second base. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am

    • Homers and doubles in win
Tovar went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Padres.

Advice: Tovar doubled to lead off a five-run sixth for the Rockies and then homered to kick off the seventh. He continued his recent hot streak at the plate and now has at least a hit in eight straight games, slashing .343/.361/.686 with two homers, five RBI and five runs scored over that span. The 31.1 strikeout rate is a bit alarming, but Tovar continues to hit toward the top of the lineup and is still making solid contact with a .275 average over 180 plate appearances thus far. • Buoyed by progress
Casas (rib) was upbeat Tuesday when discussing the progress he's made while on rehab, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: At the time of his injury, Casas was unsure how his body would respond, but he was enthused when discussing his recovery. "Everything is going well. I'm making a lot of progress," Casas said. "Starting a running progression here in the next couple of days. Should get to start throwing in two or three more days. I've already started lifting. Swinging is probably the last step, because that's a lot of rotation." Casas is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to return until June 21. While he's been out, the Red Sox have filled first base with a rotation of players that includes Garrett Cooper, Dominic Smith and Romy Gonzalez. Rotowire.com Today, 4:43 am

    • Swats fourth homer Tuesday
Rafaela went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Rays.

Advice: It was a roller coaster night for the 23-year-old. Rafaela gave Boston a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning by taking Aaron Civale deep for his fourth long ball of the year, but his throwing error in the top of the 11th nearly gave Tampa Bay the win. The Red Sox were able to tie the game back up in the bottom of the frame, though, in part thanks to Rafaela's sacrifice bunt, before winning it in the 12th. Rafaela has collected a hit in 10 of 12 contests in May, batting .275 (11-for-40) on the month with two doubles and two homers, but his 1:11 BB:K is a warning sign that his numbers could swoon quickly as they did in April (.515 OPS in 26 games.) • Powers offense in nightcap Tuesday
Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI in a 4-0 win over the Nationals during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Advice: After looking shaky in the matinee by going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, Vaughn's bat roared to life in the nightcap as he crushed a three-run homer off Mitchell Parker in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Jackson Rutledge in the eighth. All three of Vaughn's long balls on the season have come in the last five games, and over his last seven contests the 26-year-old first baseman has gone 9-for-26 (.346) with three doubles and six RBI. • Strong until late homer
Gilbert (3-2) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Royals.

Advice: Gilbert allowed just four baserunners over the first six innings. He went back out for the seventh, but two walks and a Nelson Velazquez home run ended his outing in unfortunate fashion. It's a significant improvement on the eight-run fiasco he had in Minnesota in his last start, but it's still a second straight loss for 27-year-old. He's pitched to a 3.07 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 61:18 K:BB over 58.2 innings across nine starts this season. Gilbert is projected for a tough road start versus the Yankees his next time out. • Ezequiel Tovar homers, doubles against Padres
Ezequiel Tovar collected his fifth homer and 11th double Tuesday in the Rockies’ 6-3 takedown of the Padres.

Advice: Tovar swings at everything and might have the worst approach of anyone in the majors, but he’s talented enough to be something close to an average hitter anyway. Through 180 plate appearances this year, he’s sporting a .275/.315/.443 line in spite of a 56/8 K/BB ratio. The modest success, and the fact that it’s rewarded by a Rockies team willing to hit him at the top of the lineup, makes it less likely that he’ll ever truly reach his potential. • Logan Gilbert takes loss in quality start
Logan Gilbert lost to the Royals after allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday.

Advice: All of the runs scored on Nelson Velázquez’s homer with two outs in the seventh, after which Gilbert was immediately removed. Obviously, it was an unfortunate conclusion, but it was still a nice rebound outing after he gave up eight runs last time out versus the Twins. Gilbert struck out seven and got 18 missed swings, tied for the second-highest total from any starter tonight (Joe Ross, at 21, was tops). Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:25 pm
