• David Fry hits game-tying homer in ninth
David Fry hit a game-tying homer off Andrew Chafin in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

Advice: Some curious bullpen management from the Tigers today got Fry a good matchup against a lefty in the ninth and he wound up with his second homer. This was actually a rare start against a righty for Fry, but he went 0-for-3 against them. The homer off Chafin made him 10-for-24 with four extra-base hits, 10 walks and two HBPs versus lefties this season. That’s a ridiculous .595 OBP. Unfortunately, an expanded role for Fry seems even less likely now that Kyle Manzardo is up. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Sean Murphy (oblique) starts hitting in cage
Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Wednesday that Sean Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cages.

Advice: The 29-year-old backstop continues his slow and methodical progress in his return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. It sounds like a minor league rehab stint could be on the horizon soon, though it remains unclear how many games he’ll need there to get his timing back before he’s ready to rejoin the Braves. Travis d’Arnaud will continue holding down the fort for the time being. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Returns from IL
The Rays reinstated Bradley (pectoral) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Bradley is slated to make his season debut Friday against the Yankees at Tropicana Field, but the Rays opted to activate the right-hander two days early after rotation mate Ryan Pepiot (lower leg) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. The 23-year-old showed no sign of being affected by the pectoral strain he suffered in spring training over the course of his two rehab starts with Triple-A Durham, as he struck out 15 while allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks across 11 innings. Bradley built up to 94 pitches in his second outing with Durham last Friday and shouldn't face any workload restrictions in his first start with Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Throws off mound Wednesday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation. The hope is that the right-hander will be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but he still has some hurdles to clear in order to make that a reality. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago
  • Placed on IL
The Rays placed Pepiot on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Pepiot could be activated as soon as May 21 if he makes a speedy recovery from the leg injury, which he suffered when he was hit by a line drive in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Mets. Taj Bradley (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move and will be plugged into Pepiot's spot in the rotation beginning with Friday's game against the Yankees. • Removed from 40-man roster
Short was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Short is being swapped out in favor of Romy Gonzalez, who is retuning from the injured list. He played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Cardinals and Mets postponed on Wednesday
Wednesday’s scheduled contest between the Cardinals and Mets in New York was postponed due to rain.

Advice: The game will be made up on August 5. The Cardinals’ scheduled starter, Sonny Gray, will pitch on Thursday against the Brewers. Mets’ scheduled starter Jose Quintana will pitch on Friday, pushing rookie right-hander Christian Scott back to Saturday. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Rays activate Taj Bradley, set to start on Friday
Rays activated RHP Taj Bradley from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The 23-year-old hurler will make his highly-anticipated season debut on Friday against the Yankees. The 23-year-old hurler made a pair of minor league rehab starts at Triple-A Durham where he posted a minuscule 0.82 ERA, 0.46 WHIP and a 15/3 K/BB ratio across 11 innings of work. It’s a tough matchup against the Bombers, but fantasy managers shouldn’t shy away from using Bradley in that start. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago

  • Rays place Ryan Pepiot (leg) on 15-day IL
Rays placed RHP Ryan Pepiot on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: Taj Bradley was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will make his 2024 regular season debut on Friday against the Yankees. Fortunately for fantasy managers, Pepiot should only need a minimum stint on the injured list and should be ready to jump right back into the Rays’ rotation when that time comes.
