    • Taking Civale's spot in rotation
      Baz will be recalled from Triple-A Durham to take Aaron Civale's spot in the Rays' rotation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

      Advice: Prior to being traded to the Brewers, Civale's next turn was slated to be Friday in Texas. It's not clear whether Baz will start that day or another, but his return to the big leagues is imminent. Baz struggled in May at Durham with a 7.71 ERA and 9:13 K:BB over 16.1 innings, but he rebounded in June, collecting a 1.57 ERA and 35:10 K:BB across 23 frames.       Advice: While nothing is imminent, Baz was scratched from his Triple-A start Tuesday in case the Rays were rained out in Kansas City and he was needed for a potential doubleheader on Wednesday. That situation didn’t come to pass, but the Rays traded Aaron Civale on Wednesday opening up a spot in their rotation.       Singer (4-5) was saddled with the loss Tuesday versus Tampa Bay, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four batters in five innings.

      Advice: Singer was able to keep the Rays' bats relatively quiet Tuesday, as the only run scored against him came as a result of a wild pitch in the second inning. However, a lack of run support from his offense combined with a collapse of Kansas City's bullpen following a lengthy rain delay will cause the 27-year-old righty to take his third loss in five starts.       Gil (9-4) took the loss Tuesday against Cincinnati, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks across four-plus innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Gil surrendered at least four runs for a third straight start, something he'd done just once in his first 13 outings, continuing an unexpected freefall after an outstanding start to 2024. He was pulled after hitting a pair of batters and allowing a two-run home run to Will Benson in the fifth inning without recording an out. While Gil still owns a 3.41 ERA and a 102:48 K:BB across 89.2 innings, fantasy managers should proceed with caution, especially with a matchup against the Red Sox on the docket for Sunday.       Brady Singer pitched well in a losing effort against the Rays on Tuesday night, allowing one run on three hits over his five frames.

      Advice: Singer also issued three walks on a rainy evening in Kansas City while punching out four opposing hitters. The only run that scored against him came in the second inning as Richie Palacios scampered home on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning. The 27-year-old right-hander got 15 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the night — 10 of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 32 percent. He’ll try to get back in the win column as he carries a 3.05 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and an 89/29 K/BB ratio (94 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.       George Kirby logged a quality start in Tuesday night’s loss to the Orioles, giving up two runs on seven hits over his 6 1/3 innings.

      Advice: Kirby struck out five batters on the evening while issuing only one free pass. The Orioles scratched out a run against him in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Anthony Santander. They added another in the seventh inning on a one-out RBI single by Cedric Mullins — the final batter Kirby would face. Kirby piled up 14 swings and misses on 95 pitches in the ballgame — 11 on his heater — while posting a CSW of 26 percent.       Advice: Kirby's gone seven starts in a row without allowing more than two runs, but he didn't get any run support Tuesday. The Mariners mustered two hits and four walks but couldn't scrape together a run, leaving Kirby to take his first loss since May 24. The right-hander continues to give his team a chance to win, maintaining a 3.32 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 101:10 K:BB across 105.2 innings through 18 starts this year.       Luis Gil allowed four runs on two hits in four innings in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

      Advice: The command simply wasn’t there for Gil on Tuesday, walking three and striking out three while throwing 83 pitches in just four innings. There has been some concern that Gil is hitting a bit of a wall after allowing 16 earned runs in his last 9 2/3 innings. The Yankees maintain confidence in the 26-year-old, but he left a lot of sliders up in the zone today and struggled to command his changeup, so perhaps he is getting a little tired in his breakout season.       Bryan Woo (hamstring) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session over the weekend.

      Advice: Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters Woo will throw a more extended side session this week. The 24-year-old righty hit the injured list last week with a right hamstring strain, but the fact that he’s already throwing is a sign that he’s not going to require a lengthy absence.
