• Josiah Gray (elbow) to need two more rehab starts
Nationals’ manager Dave Martinez told reporters on Saturday that Josiah Gray (elbow) will require two more minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to rejoin the team’s rotation.

Advice: Gray made a rehab start at Double-A Harrisburg on Friday where he allowed just one run over four innings of work — throwing 41 pitches (27 strikes) in the session. He’ll go five innings his next time out and then will get to around 90 pitches or six innings in his final rehab start before he’s cleared to return. The 26-year-old hurler has been shelved for nearly two months now due to a flexor strain in his elbow. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

  • Outright optioned
Martin cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Martin was designated for assignment by Baltimore and after going unclaimed on waivers, he'll remain at Triple-A. The right-hander has struggled to a 7.45 ERA and 2.61 WHIP over 9.2 innings in eight appearances with Norfolk this season and his outright option opens a spot on the 40-man roster for the Orioles. • Tosses bullpen session
Senga (shoulder/triceps) threw a two-inning bullpen session Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Senga was able to throw more than 30 pitches in the session and he's expected to throw a shorter one next week. The right-hander has been slowly working his way back from a posterior right capsule strain and then a subsequent triceps injury and he's yet to make his season debut. Senga has already been ruled out for the first half of the season, but if he can build off of Saturday's session next week, he'll remain on track to return relatively soon following the All-Star break. • Saturday’s A’s vs. Twins game postponed (rain)
Saturday’s game between the Athletics and Twins has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Advice: Rain in the forecast throughout the afternoon and evening in Minnesota made this one an easy call. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon instead. Saturday’s scheduled starters -- Joey Estes and Bailey Ober -- will presumably be pushed back to take the ball at some point during Sunday’s twin bill at Target Field. Rotoworld Today, 10:49 am

  • Likely moving into rotation
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after Friday's loss to the Cardinals that Hendricks is likely to take Jordan Wicks' (oblique) spot in the rotation, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Advice: Hendricks came on in relief for the injured Wicks in the second inning and tossed 4.1 scoreless frames. The veteran right-hander has been disastrous on the whole this season with an 8.20 ERA, he's unscored upon over his last 8.2 innings out of the bullpen. Hendricks would tentatively be lined up to start Wednesday at home versus the Giants. Rotowire.com Today, 10:47 am

  • Cade Cavalli (elbow) completes sim game Saturday
Cade Cavalli (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a two-inning simulated game.

Advice: Cavalli appears to be in a bit of a holding pattern as he nears the final stages of his rehabilitation process from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old righty figures to need some additional rehab outings in the upper minors before he’s ready to jump back into Washington’s starting rotation mix. It’s encouraging that he’s getting through all of his throwing sessions without any issues. Rotoworld Today, 10:42 am
