• Taking seat Wednesday
Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: The White Sox are bringing a right-hander (Chris Flexen) to the mound, but he's been far more effective against lefties (.314 wOBA) than righties (.372 wOBA) for his career, which likely explains why the lefty-hitting Rortvedt is on the bench. Alex Jackson will fill in for Rortvedt behind the plate. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Bobby Witt Jr. homers to lead Royals past Brewers
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Wednesday, propelling the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Witt reached base safely in three of his four plate appearances and wound up scoring half of Kansas City’s runs in this one. His eight-inning blast off Brewers reliever Joel Payamps was his fifth of the season and turned out to be an important insurance run as Milwaukee attempted to mount a late comeback in the ensuing frame. It was the first time he’s gone deep in nearly one month since a two-homer outburst back on April 11. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Brice Turang collects three hits in Brewers’ loss
Brice Turang went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in the Brewers’ loss to the Royals.

Advice: Turang capped off a three-hit performance with a run-scoring double off Royals reliever Tyler Duffey in the ninth inning, but wound up being stranded in scoring position representing the potential tying run. The 24-year-old speedster has made the most of his opportunity this season, emerging as Milwaukee’s everyday second baseman, posting an .826 OPS with two homers and 14 steals through 34 contests so far. • Still experiencing thumb soreness
Yoshida is still experiencing discomfort in his left thumb and will be examined by a specialist Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida could receive additional opinions, too, saying Wednesday that he's been told it's "a rare injury" he's dealing with and he's trying to determine the best way to proceed. He's been out for all of May with the injury and a timetable remains very much up in the air. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Hits in batting cage
Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cage, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Murphy's recovery from a Grade 1 left oblique strain has inched along at a snail's pace, but he's finally making real progress. Given that he's already missed nearly six weeks of action, he will no doubt require a handful of rehab games before rejoining Atlanta's active roster. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Brayan Rocchio delivers game-winner in 10th
Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-4 with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th as the Guardians defeated the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday.

Advice: The Guardians just needed one in the 10th, and they got it after a sac bunt to advance the runner to third. The single accounted for Rocchio’s fifth RBI in 120 plate appearances this season. He’s batting .223/.319/.301 with middling defense, so there’s still the possibility that the Guardians will make a change at shortstop at some point. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • David Fry hits game-tying homer in ninth
David Fry hit a game-tying homer off Andrew Chafin in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

Advice: Some curious bullpen management from the Tigers today got Fry a good matchup against a lefty in the ninth and he wound up with his second homer. This was actually a rare start against a righty for Fry, but he went 0-for-3 against them. The homer off Chafin made him 10-for-24 with four extra-base hits, 10 walks and two HBPs versus lefties this season. That’s a ridiculous .595 OBP. Unfortunately, an expanded role for Fry seems even less likely now that Kyle Manzardo is up. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Sean Murphy (oblique) starts hitting in cage
Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Wednesday that Sean Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cages.

Advice: The 29-year-old backstop continues his slow and methodical progress in his return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. It sounds like a minor league rehab stint could be on the horizon soon, though it remains unclear how many games he’ll need there to get his timing back before he’s ready to rejoin the Braves. Travis d’Arnaud will continue holding down the fort for the time being. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Removed from 40-man roster
Short was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Short is being swapped out in favor of Romy Gonzalez, who is retuning from the injured list. He played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago
