• Gets breather
Palacios is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Palacios has been an everyday starter for the Rays lately with Jose Siri dealing with a suspension and Josh Lowe (hamstring) on the 10-day IL. However, the newly recalled Johnny DeLuca will fill in at center field Friday. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago
  • Rays activate Jonny DeLuca from the IL
Rays activated Jonny DeLuca (hand) from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: DeLuca had been out since early March, but had a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham last week where he went 0-for-4 with an RBI. The 25-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Dodgers where he had an average .740 OPS across 45 plate appearances. He’ll likely make his Rays debut sometime this weekend. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago
  • Rays option Niko Goodrum to Triple-A
Rays optioned INF Niko Goodrum to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Goodrum will head down to the minors after he put together just four hits in his 37 plate appearances with the Rays this season. The 32-year-old was added to the Rays in a trade with the Twins at the beginning of the season as infield depth, but he hasn’t made the mark he nor the Rays hoped he could. • Sent back to minors
The Blue Jays optioned Barger to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Barger struggled during his first stint in the big leagues, going just 1-for-18 with a 6:0 K:BB. He'll go back to playing every day with Buffalo while Nathan Lukes takes his spot on Toronto's roster. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Joins big club
The Blue Jays recalled Lukes from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Advice: The 29-year-old missed out on Toronto's Opening Day roster but will join the big-league club a month into the season. Lukes had a .284/.348/.432 slash line through 20 games for Buffalo this season and will provide outfield depth with Kevin Kiermaier (hip) on the injured list. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
  • Back from injury
DeLuca (hand) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: DeLuca has missed the first month-plus of 2024 after fracturing his right hand on a hit-by-pitch in spring training, but after a six-game rehab stint at Triple-A Durham, DeLuca will join the big-league roster. The 25-year-old batted .300 in 25 plate appearances and walked four times with one strikeout at Durham. He'll immediately step into the lineup and is starting in center field and batting eighth Friday versus the Mets. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Sent to Triple-A
The Rays optioned Goodrum to Triple-A Durham on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Goodrum was called up by Tampa Bay on April 12, but he appeared in just nine games and went 3-for-16 with a walk and six strikeouts. The 32-year-old could rejoin the Rays later in the campaign if/when the club requires infield depth. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

  • Working out with Double-A affiliate
Hays will work out with Double-A Bowie this weekend, but it's unclear when his rehab assignment will start, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Hays is nursing his way back from a strained left calf, an injury he sustained Apr. 20. While an official start date for his rehab assignment has yet to be announced, it's expected he'll do such at Bowie. Colton Cowser has taken hold of the starting job in left field, so the team has the luxury of not being forced to rush Hays back. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago

  • Still has manager's confidence
Rosario has remained a regular in the Nationals' lineup despite his early-season struggles, and manager Dave Martinez hasn't given up on the 32-year-old, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. "It's early," Martinez said Thursday. "You've got to give him a chance, you really do. I'm not going to sit him down yet right now. He's got to go out there and play. ... I've seen him play before. This kid can hit. He can put you on his shoulders."

Advice: At the moment, Rosario is handling the strong side of a platoon in right field while Lane Thomas (knee) is injured, but he's mired in an 0-for-27 slump that has sunk his slash line on the season to .086/.133/.157. Rosario has a history of slow starts, but even his xBA and xwOBA are in the bottom one percent of qualified hitters. Once Thomas gets healthy, the Nats may not be able to afford to stay patient with Rosario, especially with top prospect James Wood also making a strong case for a promotion to the majors.
