    • Daulton Varsho sits with food poisoning on Friday
Daulton Varsho was held out of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup on Friday night due to food poisoning.

Advice: That’s the reason that the 27-year-old never made an appearance despite a 14-inning marathon contest against the Pirates. He’s considered day-to-day though his status for Saturday remains up in the air at this point. Rotoworld Friday, 8:27 pm
    • Luis Severino allows five runs, wins
Luis Severino pitched 5 ⅓ innings on Friday against the Diamondbacks and four earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk in a win.

Advice: Seeing the win is nice, but Severino wasn’t his best on Friday. His velocity was down a tick across the board as the Diamondbacks made plenty of hard contact. Yet, Severino didn’t allow an extra-base hit until the Eugenio Suárez home run that chased him from the game. Keep an eye on whether or not that velocity levels out in his next start. • Brandon Marsh drives in run in victory on Friday
Brandon Marsh went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored as the Phillies triumphed over the Cardinals on Friday night in Philadelphia.

Advice: Marsh opened the scoring in the second inning as he drove in Alec Bohm with a ground ball to first base. He then smacked a one-out double in the seventh inning and raced around to score on a two-out single by Johan Rojas. On the season, the 26-year-old outfielder is now slashing .261/.331/.427 to go with six homers, 25 RBI and eight swipes. Rotoworld Friday, 5:58 pm

    • Beginning rehab assignment Friday
Conforto (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Conforto continues to work his way back from a right hamstring strain that he sustained May 11 against the Reds. Before landing on the IL, Conforto was slashing .280/.331/.490 with seven home runs and 20 RBI over 154 plate appearances. He may only need a few rehab appearances before being activated. • Michael Conforto starts rehab assignment Friday
Michael Conforto (hamstring) began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Advice: The Giants’ outfield could use some reinforcements, and Conforto should be ready to provide that after a couple of minor league games to get his timing back. If all goes well, he should return to the active roster early next week. Before landing on the injured list, the 31-year-old slugger was hitting .280/.331/.490 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 38 games. Rotoworld Friday, 4:16 pm

Brendan Donovan was scratched from the Cardinals’ starting lineup on Friday due to neck stiffness.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder is considered day-to-day for the time being. • Jeremy Peña getting a night off on Friday
Jeremy Peña is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Twins.

Advice: It’s nothing more than a routine night off for the 26-year-old shortstop. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Astros against Pablo Lopez and the Twins on Friday evening in Houston. Rotoworld Friday, 1:14 pm

    • Getting first day off
Pena is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Minnesota, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Pena had started each of Houston's 57 games this season but will receive his first day off Friday amid a 1-for-16 slump. Mauricio Dubon will play shortstop and bat seventh Friday. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:14 pm
