• Josiah Gray (elbow) throws 35-pitch bullpen
Josiah Gray (elbow) threw a 35-pitch bullpen Saturday.

Advice: Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters that the bullpen session “went well.” Gray is expected to be cleared to face live hitters soon, and if the progress continues, a rehab assignment shouldn’t be far away. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago

  • Nearing rehab assignment
Kahnle (shoulder) will throw a live batting-practice session Saturday and could begin a rehab assignment thereafter, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kahnle has been throwing bullpens since mid-April and recently progressed to facing live hitters. The Yankees haven't yet established a firm plan for the veteran reliever, but it appears likely that he'll either have one more live BP after Saturday's session or move onto a minor-league rehab assignment. Kahnle was a key piece of the team's bullpen last season, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB over 40.2 innings while registering two saves and 14 holds. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

  • Takes big step in recovery
Cole (elbow) threw 15 pitches off a mound Saturday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Advice: This was Cole's first bullpen session since he was shut down from throwing in mid-March, thus it was a significant milestone as the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner works his way back to the Yankees rotation. Per Goodman, Cole was "giddy" after throwing Saturday, so it appears the session went well. The veteran right-hander is eligible to come off the IL near the end of this month, but recent reports suggest that mid-June may be a more realistic target. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

  • Collects third win
Schreiber (3-0) earned the win Friday versus the Rangers, allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout in a scoreless inning.

Advice: Schreiber erased a walk with a double play, then loaded the bases again before striking out Marcus Semien to end the top of the seventh inning. The Royals rallied for six runs in their half of the frame, and Schreiber ended up with the win. He's pitched 5.1 consecutive scoreless innings, and he's been scored on just once this season, pitching to 0.59 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB over 15.1 innings. He's getting some good luck, as indicated by a .227 BABIP and 3.06 FIP, but the right-hander looks poised to play an important high-leverage role for the Royals for the year. The 30-year-old southpaw will return to the Brewers' bullpen, while right-hander Corbin Martin was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 9:49 am

  • Brewers bring back Jared Koenig from Triple-A
Brewers recalled LHP Jared Koenig from Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Koenig was excellent over 8 2/3 innings in five appearances with the Brewers before his demotion with a 1.04 ERA as evidence. He provides a fresh multi-inning arm for the Brew Crew, with Corbin Martin heading back to Triple-A to make room on the roster. Rotoworld Today, 9:35 am
  • Back down to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Martin to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

  • Progressing toward rehab assignment
Middleton (forearm) threw a bullpen session Saturday and is expected to throw two more next week before heading to Double-A Springfield for a rehab assignment, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Middleton noted that his session Saturday went well and he has not experienced any discomfort in his right forearm since receiving a PRP injection April 6, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat. Barring any setbacks next week, Middleton is set to start his rehab assignment, and some good outings in Springfield should mean a return to the majors for the 30-year-old. Rotowire.com Today, 9:20 am
