    • Josh Jung (wrist) resumes taking batting practice
Josh Jung (wrist) has progressed to taking batting practice.

Advice: Jung was cleared to resume swinging a bat back in late May, so it’s a positive sign he’s taking regular batting practice again. The 26-year-old has been brought along slowly in his rehabilitation from early-April surgery on his right wrist. The hope is that he’ll be ready to return at some point in late June or early July. There is no official timetable at this juncture, but he should be getting close to starting a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

    • Goes deep Friday
Mountcastle went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a hit-by-pitch in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rays.

Advice: Mountcastle has homered three times over four games versus the Rays this season. The first baseman is batting .349 (22-for-63) with five long balls and 13 RBI over his last 16 contests. For the season, Mountcastle has a strong .281/.321/.509 slash line with 11 homers, 31 RBI, 34 runs scored, two stolen bases and 16 doubles over 57 games. He's shown modest growth from last year's .270/.328/.452 slash line, and he's also cut his strikeouts down from 22.8 percent to 21.2 percent year-over-year. Rotowire.com Today, 10:07 am
    • Throws light bullpen Friday
Munoz (back) threw a light bullpen session before Friday's game against the Royals per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, but the reliever did not appear in the contest.

Advice: Divish had noted there was a possibility Munoz would be available for the first time since exiting Tuesday's game against the Athletics, but it was Ryne Stanek who got the ninth-inning call and ultimately failed to protect a 9-7 lead. With Stanek having appeared in three of the last four games and having thrown 39 pitches in the last two nights, Munoz would certainly be in line for any high-leverage work Saturday if he's healthy enough to handle it. • Stuck with loss in quality start
Steele (0-3) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings as the Cubs were downed 3-2 by the Reds. He struck out seven.

Advice: The southpaw pitched well in his second quality start of the season, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 90 pitches, but a lack of run support kept him out of the win column once again. Steele appears to be rounding into form after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, and over his last three starts he sports a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 19 innings. He'll look for that first victory of 2024 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 am

    • Breaks slump Friday
Kim went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Kim went 0-for-10 with two walks over the previous three games before breaking out Friday. The homer was his eighth of the year but just his second over the last 18 contests. The shortstop has a .223/.332/.393 slash line with 29 RBI, 34 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 66 games. While his ratios are a bit adrift compared to his last two seasons, Kim continues to hold down a starting role and is delivering solid production in the counting stats. • Justin Steele remains winless after quality start
Justin Steele dropped to 0-3 after allowing three runs in seven innings Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Two of the runs scored in the fourth after Steele had Elly De La Cruz picked off first base, only for Cruz to reach second because of errant throw from Michael Busch. If that had turned into an out, Steele might have wound up allowing just one run tonight. He’ll face the Rays next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm

    • Yelich has three hits in route over Tigers Friday
Christian Yelich went 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base against the Tigers on Friday.

Advice: The stolen base was his ninth of the season. Yelich continues to swing a hot bat at the plate as he’s up to .324 on the season with a .934 OPS. The 32-year-old outfielder is in the top 15 in all of baseball in wRC+ (min. 150 plate appearances). Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
    • Resting versus lefty
Varsho isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Friday against the Athletics.

Advice: Left-hander Hogan Harris will start on the bump for Oakland, so the lefty-hitting Varsho will watch the beginning of Friday's game from the dugout. Davis Schneider will handle left field, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa gets the start at second base and Ernie Clement fills in at the hot corner. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:58 pm
    • Andrés Muñoz throws, could be available out of pen
Andrés Muñoz threw before Friday’s game and might be available to pitch against the Royals.

Advice: Muñoz has been unavailable since tweaking his already sore back on a collision at home plate during Tuesday’s game. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:53 pm
