    • Struggles in short outing
      Miller did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-3 win against the White Sox, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over two innings. He struck out one.

      Advice: The Dodgers right-hander labored through just two innings against a feeble White Sox lineup, requiring 60 pitches with only 32 percent being in the zone. Miller has been unsteady since returning from the injured list June 19, generating a 8.64 ERA and 3:4 K:BB across 8.1 innings versus two weak opponents -- Chicago and Colorado.     • Bobby Miller allows 3 ER in short outing vs. CWS
      Bobby Miller allowed three earned runs over two innings in Tuesday’s win over the White Sox.

      Advice: Miller surrendered a two-run homer to Andrew Benintendi in the bottom of the first inning, and later saw an Eloy Jiménez double bring Luis Robert Jr. around to score. Miller allowed four baserunners in the frame and needed 38 pitches to get out of the inning but was pulled after the second inning and 60 pitches. It was just Miller’s fifth start of the season and his second-shortest outing on the year, as he was erratic for much of the night, with only 33 of his pitches going for strikes. The young righty has allowed three earned runs or more in three of his starts this season and saw his ERA jump to 6.75 after Tuesday’s outing.       Scott earned the save in Tuesday's 2-1 victory against Kansas City, pitching a scoreless inning while allowing one hit.

      Advice: Scott worked around a single yielded to Salvador Perez and subsequent pinch-run stolen base by Dairon Blanco to secure double-digit saves for the third consecutive season. The left-handed closer has been especially stingy since May 1, producing a 0.84 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 21.1 innings.       Tanner Scott pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save on Tuesday against the Royals.

      Advice: Scott allowed a one-out single to Salvador Perez in the ninth but went on to retire the next two batters he faced. The veteran lefty now has 10 saves on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.59 on the season.       Mitch Keller allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

      Advice: Keller struck out six and walked three on the day; however, he got just eight whiffs on 48 swings for a 17 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. Keller’s command was good in this one, which led to 22 called strikes and helped him get through without the most dynamic stuff. He’ll look for a smoother ride against the Cardinals next time out.     • Gausman has quality start against Red Sox
      Kevin Gausman allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

      Advice: Gausman struck out five and walked one on the day but did allow two home runs, which accounted for all but one of the runs scored against him. The 33-year-old’s fastball averaged 94 mph on the day, which is up from his season average and he got seven whiffs on 24 swings on that pitch. However, he was only able to get 10 whiffs overall on the day for a 20 percent whiff rate and 25 percent CSW. He had just a 38 percent zone rate on the splitter, and he’s been struggling to get whiffs on that pitch over the last few starts.       Jordan Romano (elbow) has resumed playing catch.

      Advice: It qualifies as a step in the right direction that Romano was able to resume throwing, albeit light catch, over the weekend, after being shut down last week due to renewed right elbow soreness. The 31-year-old veteran stopper is going to have to build up his throwing program basically from scratch again and is probably going to be out through the upcoming All-Star break.     • Good start goes to waste
      Steele allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out nine over 7.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Monday.

      Advice: The downside to Steele's outing was that two of the hits on his line were solo home runs from Matt Chapman and Nick Ahmed. The southpaw hadn't given up a homer in any of his last five starts, and the Giants were able to continue their comeback push against the Cubs' bullpen to deny Steele his first win of the year. Despite the lack of positive results, he's logged five quality starts in 11 outings with a 3.08 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 65:16 K:BB over 64.1 innings.       Justin Steele was denied a win yet again after allowing two runs in 7 1/3 innings Monday against the Giants.
