      The Cubs placed Assad on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm extensor strain, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

      Advice: The injury has evidently been an issue for Assad off and on for about two weeks, per Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, which could help explain why he's stumbled in June with a 5.49 ERA after entering the month with a 2.27 mark.       Castro went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Arizona while also being hit by a pitch.

      Advice: Castro was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat and responded with a leadoff double on the first pitch in his next trip to the plate, before then coming home on a double from Trevor Larnach. The utility man would add a two-run homer in the fifth to increase Minnesota's lead to seven runs, giving him two homers over his last five games. Castro has also hit safely in nine straight, posting multiple hits in five of those contests. He's batting .405 (15-for-37) over that stretch with eight RBI and nine runs scored.     • Struggles again Wednesday
      Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15. Castro then took Brandon Hughes deep for a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the Twins lead.     • Luis Gil struggles again in loss
      Luis Gil labored through 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five earned runs with four walks and just two strikeouts.

      Advice: There’s been a hard shift in Gil’s season over the past week. He gave up 18 ER in his first 80 innings and 12 ER in his last 5 2/3 frames. He looked uncomfortable and weirdly enough, these last two starts he threw his lowest percentage of fastballs and two of his three highest percentages of changeups in any start this season. It’s important to note that he threw only 136 2/3 innings between 2021 and 2023, so the 85 2/3 he’s already thrown this season are already substantial given his lengthy injury history.

      Brent Rooker went 2-for-4 with a double on Wednesday against the Angels.

      Advice: The Athletics keep losing, but Rooker keeps hitting. The double was his 32nd extra-base hit of the season and his OPS has climbed up to .845, 20th in the league among qualified players.       Advice: The lefty-hitting Naylor took a seat in Tuesday's 10-8 win while southpaw Cade Povich was on the bump, but Naylor's absence Wednesday is more conspicuous against Baltimore right-hander Grayson Rodriguez. Naylor could be nursing an unspecified injury, but the Guardians have yet to provide any official confirmation on that front.
