    • Set to resume throwing program
Romano (elbow) is expected to resume throwing Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The right-hander will throw from flat ground and stretch out to 150 feet before beginning mound work. The Blue Jays are proceeding cautiously with their closer after he received an anti-inflammatory injection June 2, but Romano might still be able to avoid a rehab stint before being activated from the injured list. • Homers in extra-inning loss
Melendez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss versus the Mariners.

Advice: Melendez has just three hits over his last 10 games, but all of them have been homers. His blast Sunday tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. Melendez is up to seven homers this season, but he's taken a step back overall with a .165/.228/.346 slash line through 197 plate appearances on the year. He's added 19 RBI, 17 runs scored and two stolen bases, and he's still seeing a majority of the playing time in left field despite his poor hitting. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:20 pm

    • Fans nine in no-decision
Ragans allowed a run on three hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out nine during the loss to Seattle.

Advice: Ragans served up a leadoff home run to J.P. Crawford on just the fourth pitch of the game but was otherwise dominant despite not earning a win. After the homer, Ragans struck out seven of the next 10 batters he faced. It was his second straight quality start and fourth in his last five appearances. He forced a season-high 22 whiffs, including 11 with his changeup. Ragans lowered his ERA to 3.08 alongside a 98:25 K:BB through 79 innings. His next start is expected to be against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:49 pm

    • Goes seven strong to earn win
Eovaldi (3-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings against the Giants. He struck out five.

Advice: Eovaldi was staked to a 5-0 lead after two innings and cruised through seven, merely allowing single runs in each of the third and fourth innings as he rolled to his third victory. More importantly, he was also extended to near his full workload, completing seven innings on 90 pitches after tossing 37 and 71 in his previous two starts following a nearly four-week stint on the IL with a groin injury. It was the seventh start out of 10 for Eovaldi with at least five innings while allowing two or fewer runs. He'll carry a 2.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP into his next start, likely to take place next weekend when the Rangers travel to Seattle for a showdown against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:39 pm
    • Cole Ragans surrenders one run in no-decision
Cole Ragans limited the Mariners to one run in six innings and struck out nine in a no-decision Sunday.

Advice: The Ragans-George Kirby matchup met expectations, resulting in a 1-1 tie when Ragans departed. Ragans allowed one run or fewer for the eighth time in 14 starts this season. His two bad outings this year have been particularly bad, accounting for 14 of the 27 earned runs he’s allowed, but he’s been terrific overall and should have been than a 4-4 record to show for it. • MJ Melendez hits game-tying homer in ninth
MJ Melendez hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Melendez also had a two-run homer as part of a four-RBI game Friday. He’d seem to be in desperate need of the surge, though really, we’d argue that the Royals should have sent him down weeks ago. That’s not to say that he can’t turn things around in the majors — maybe he’s starting to do so — but he’s batting .165 and hasn’t had a multi-hit game since May 10. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:22 pm

    • Swipes bag
Buxton went 0-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Pirates.

Advice: Buxton went hitless but managed to reach base on a hit-by-pitch in the 10th inning. He recorded his third stolen base in five tries this season and his first since May 28. Buxton has had a brutal start to the month of June, batting just .115 (3-for-26) with one RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. The 30-year-old continues to start in center field for the Twins due to his defensive prowess, but he has not been a reliable option for fantasy managers. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:21 pm

    • Resumes rehab in Brooklyn
Alvarez (thumb) resumed his rehab assignment Sunday with High-A Brooklyn, starting at catcher while going 0-for-5 in a 7-6 loss to Aberdeen.

Advice: After going 3-for-14 with a home run and three walks across the first five games of his rehab assignment, Alvarez had been out of the Brooklyn lineup for each of the previous three days while tending to a family matter in his native Venezuela. He rejoined Brooklyn for its final game of the week, and though he came up empty at the plate, getting additional at-bats under his belt is the more pressing concern for Alvarez as he looks to prove he's made a full recovery from the left thumb surgery he underwent in late April. If the Mets are comfortable with Alvarez's health coming out of Sunday's contest, he could be activated from the 10-day injured list for the start of the big club's series with the Marlins that begins Tuesday. • Needs third rehab start
Cole (elbow) said after Sunday's rehab outing with Double-A Somerset that he'll require at least one additional rehab start, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 4.2 innings.

Advice: Cole threw 44 of 57 pitches for strikes in his second rehab appearance Sunday as he continues building up his workload while coming back from nerve irritation in his elbow. The 33-year-old is trending toward a season debut in late June at the latest, though an exact return date won't come into focus until it's determined how many rehab outings are necessary.
