Thomas went 2-for-2 with two walks in Thursday's loss to the Mets.
Advice: The Nationals wound up getting shut out, but that was no fault of Thomas'. The 28-year-old hasn't homered in 20 straight games but he's hardly been struggling during that stretch, slashing .293/.376/.415 with six doubles, two triples, six steals, 13 runs and 13 RBI. Pfaadt (4-6) picked up the win over Atlanta on Thursday, allowing three hits over six shutout innings while striking out four.
Advice: Pfaadt went 1-2-3 through the first three innings and never allowed a runner to reach second base while he was on the mound. It was the first shutout of the season for the right-hander, who induced 11 whiffs in the contest, and he's now logged quality starts in four of his last six outings. He's also gone at least six innings in 12 of his last 14 starts and hasn't walked a batter in either of his last two to open the month of July. Rotowire.comToday, 6:52 am
Castillo (8-9) picked up the win over the Angels on Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks over six shutout innings while striking out five.
Advice: Castillo allowed baserunners in each of the first three innings but managed to work his way out of trouble on each occasion, shutting down the Angels' lineup over six frames. The right-hander threw 17 of 23 first pitches for strikes and induced 12 whiffs on the night to earn his second consecutive win. Castillo has now gone at least six innings in back-to-back outings after previously failing to do so in three straight. However, he's also issued multiple free passes in four of his last five starts. Brandon Pfaadt allowed just three hits over six innings in the Diamondbacks’ 1-0 win over the Braves on Thursday.
Advice: Pfaadt got his win of the month tonight, as he improved to 4-6 while the Diamondbacks moved to 10-9 in his starts. He’s given the team 10 quality starts while pitching at least six innings on 14 occasions. With Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen having missed so much time, it’s scary to think just how much the Diamondbacks would have needed to ask from their pen if Pfaadt hadn’t been so solid to date. Luis Castillo shut out the Angels for six innings to cruise to his eighth victory Thursday.
Advice: Castillo has recorded an MLB-high 17 decisions in his 20 starts to date, and he’s tied for 17th with his eight wins and third with his nine losses. None of the other seven pitchers with at least nine losses has more than three wins, so he’s got that going for him. It helps that he gets to face the Angels; he’s thrown 13 scoreless innings in his two wins against the club. RotoworldYesterday, 9:35 pm
Brandon Drury went 0-for-3 before being lifted from Thursday’s loss to the Mariners.
Advice: Drury might be the next veteran to go on revocable waivers, but it’s doubtful anyone would claim him. After a fine 2023 in the first year of a two-year, $17 million deal, he’s hit just .170/.244/.220 in 42 games this season. The Angels could release him after Luis Rengifo returns, though the likelihood that they’ll trade Rengifo might give them pause there. RotoworldYesterday, 9:34 pm
Bryce Harper (hand) is back in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Dodgers.
Advice: Harper is back at first base and batting third on Thursday night following a brief one-game absence due to a right hand contusion. The 31-year-old generational slugger went 0-for-4 on Tuesday night in his return from the injured list after missing just over one week due to a mild left hamstring strain. Jonathan India went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a blowout win Thursday over the Rockies.
Advice: India and Spencer Steer were fantastic at the top of the lineup for the Reds on Thursday; combining for six hits and four runs scored in the blowout victory. India hasn’t shown a ton of power in 2024 with a .419 slugging mark, but the 27-year-old has hit .276, stolen eight bases and scored 46 runs with a couple of games left before the break. All things considered, a very nice first half for India. RotoworldYesterday, 1:00 pm
Harper (hand) will start at first base and bat third Thursday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Harper suffered a bruised left hand during Tuesday's victory and ended up having to sit out Wednesday's contest, but the 31-year-old slugger is now feeling well enough to return to the field. He went 0-for-4 in his return from a stint on the injured list Tuesday but had slashed .423/.455/.865 with five homers and 12 RBI during a 12-game hitting streak prior to landing on the IL.
