• Jared Koenig records seventh victory in relief
Jared Koenig picked up his seventh win in relief after throwing a scoreless 10th Wednesday against the Rangers.

Advice: Koenig is the Brewers’ win leader even though he didn’t debut until Apr. 15, and he’s been burned as an opener three times, ruling out the possibility of anything aside from a loss. His ERA stands at 1.72, though his 33/11 K/BB in 36 2/3 innings is more good than great. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:17 pm

  • Reid Detmers fans 10, gives up two homers in loss
Reid Detmers struck out 10 but still gave up five runs in six innings Tuesday for Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Although he allowed only five hard-hit balls, two turned into homers and he still gave up eight hits anyway. Detmers has a 6.00 ERA and a 30/7 K/BB ratio over 24 innings in four starts since his demotion. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:54 am
  • Hit hard early
Gomber (1-5) took the loss Tuesday against Houston, allowing five runs on eight hits and no walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: All five runs against Gomber came in the first inning, when he allowed four consecutive singles to open the frame as part of a six-hit inning that included a pair of stolen bases. However, the 30-year-old settled in after the nightmare first frame, allowing just two baserunners afterward before a Jake Meyers double prompted Colorado to remove Gomber after 89 pitches. Gomber has endured a rough June, yielding at least three runs in all five starts and completing only six innings once. He owns a 9.39 ERA with 15 strikeouts over 23.0 innings during the month. He's tentatively scheduled for a home start against Milwaukee early next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:11 am

  • Gomber allows five earned runs in loss to Astros
Austin Gomber allowed eight hits and five earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Astros.

Advice: Gomber was tuned up for six hits and five earned runs in the first inning, as the Astros sent all nine hitters to the plate against the Rockies’ lefty. It was a flurry of singles off Gomber that resulted in the five-run frame, with the last resulting in a two-RBI hit by Chas McCormick. Gomber needed 33 pitches to get through the inning but later settled in to pitch 4 1/3 scoreless frames the rest of the way. Still, the early disaster proved to be too much for Gomber, as the Rockies managed just six hits on the night against the Astros. Gomber has allowed four earned runs or more in each of his last four starters. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for starters next Monday, as he’s set to start against the Brewers. • Giants promoting Hayden Birdsong on Wednesday
Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters Hayden Birdsong will start on Wednesday against the Cubs.

Advice: Birdsong will take the ball for Wednesday’s contest against the Cubs in his major-league debut after posting a strong 2.51 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 75/26 K/BB ratio across 57 1/3 innings (13 starts) this season between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. The 22-year-old righty has morphed into one of San Francisco’s top pitching prospects after being taken in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Eastern Illinois. It’s unclear how much runway he’s going to get at the highest level, but he’s an interesting talent, especially given his nearly triple-digit fastball velocity and lofty strikeout numbers in the upper minors. • Rays designateChris Devenski for assignment
Rays designated RHP Chris Devenski for assignment.

Advice: Well, that didn’t work out. Devenski missed nearly a month with right knee tendinitis, but he was wholly ineffective when he was on the mound with a 6.75 ERA and 1.58 WHIP after giving up two runs against Seattle on Monday. The right-hander was signed a one-year, $1 million contract prior to the season, and it’s possible another team will have interest on the waiver wire or in trade in hopes that he could return to his form he showed as a member of the Astros. • Jettisoned from 40-man roster
The Rays designated Devenski for assignment Tuesday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: The move comes after Devenski was scored upon Monday versus the Mariners for the third time in as many appearances. Devenski holds a 6.75 ERA in 19 relief outings in 2024 and will likely pass through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:01 am
  • Picking up another start
Rodriguez is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: Rodriguez built up to four innings and 79 pitches over six rehab appearances with Triple-A Buffalo prior to coming off the 15-day injured list this past Friday, but he wasn't able to improve upon that workload in his return to the big club. He needed 52 pitches to record just four outs and took a loss to the Guardians while giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits and three walks in his first start for Toronto since April 29. Rodriguez's abbreviated outing appears to be performance-related rather than the result of him incurring a setback with his spine, but the Blue Jays could still look to keep his workloads in check compared to their other starters in an effort to increase his effectiveness. Bowden Francis ended up piggybacking Rodriguez for 3.2 innings Friday and could be deployed in tandem with him again Wednesday, if Francis isn't needed in relief before then. • Blows first save of year
Harvey (2-3) took the loss and blew the save in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Padres, coughing up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: The right-hander is having a bumpy June, giving up runs in four of nine appearances en route to a 7.71 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB in 9.1 innings. Monday's blown save was his first of the year though, and Harvey remains the Nationals' top set-up option ahead of closer Kyle Finnegan, having already racked up a career-high 23 holds. Should Washington become sellers at the trade deadline and send Finnegan to a contender, Harvey would almost certainly move into the ninth-inning role. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:57 am
