• Shuster gets win with three in relief
Jared Shuster picked up the win while throwing three scoreless innings in relief in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.

Advice: Shuster came in to work three innings of bulk relief after Chad Kuhl exited after three frames. The 25-year-old is the 27th player for the doubleheader against Atlanta — Shuster’s former organization — and he made a case for staying up while striking out two and allowing just one hit. Shuster has pitched well in his limited chances with the White Sox, but even if he did get called up into a full-time role, there’s a lot working against him as a potential fantasy option. • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:51 pm

  • David Festa gets win in MLB debut vs. Diamondbacks
David Festa picked up a win despite allowing five runs in five innings against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Advice: Festa wasn’t particularly effective, but he was good enough to pick up a win in his first MLB start; mainly thanks to 13 runs of support behind him. The 24-year-old allowed seven hits — including a homer to Ketel Marte — with a walk and two strikeouts. Festa is considered one of the better pitching prospects in the Minnesota system, but will need to pitch better going forward to justify any sort of fantasy significance in 2024. • Sent back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Montero was recalled from the minors to serve as a bulk reliever for Wednesday's game, during which he allowed five earned runs in just 4.1 innings. He'll now head back to Toledo in order to free up a roster spot for Alex Faedo (hip), who returned from the IL on Thursday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:05 pm

  • Tigers option Keider Moreno back to Triple-A
Tigers optioned RHP Keider Moreno to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Moreno heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Phillies. The 23-year-old righty has struggled at the highest level, but he’s flashed an ability to miss bats with his slider in the big leagues. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:56 pm

  • Struggles again in rehab start
Kremer (triceps) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in his third rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He struck out five batters.

Advice: Kremer got his pitch count up to 75 and looks ready to return from the 15-day injured list from a workload standpoint, but it's unclear if Baltimore is keen on slotting him back into the rotation while he's largely struggled during the minor-league assignment. The right-hander has posted an 11.42 ERA and 9:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings across his three starts. He's been out since late May with a right triceps strain. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:52 am

  • Dean Kremer struggles in rehab start
Dean Kremer allowed four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Advice: It’s another poor rehab start for Kremer, who now has an 11.42 ERA during his rehab assignment. He did strike out five while throwing 75 pitches, so it’s possible he could be up to 80-90 pitches in his next outing. Whether the Orioles decide that will come at Triple-A or in the majors is anybody’s guess right now. Rotoworld Thursday, 10:42 am

  • Twins officially call up David Festa
Twins recalled RHP David Festa from Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: The move was announced on Wednesday but is now official. Festa is the Twins’ top pitching prospect and has looked the part, striking out 87 batters in 59 2/3 innings with a 3.77 ERA in Triple-A this year. He has some control issues, but he has a deep array of pitches including a slider with the second-highest whiff rate total for a slider at Triple-A with whiffs on 44.8% of swings and a CSW of 39.2%. He also boasts a changeup that had a 41.2% whiff rate and 31.4% CSW. Ronny Henriquez was optioned in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:54 am

  • Fans eight in tough-luck loss
Estes (2-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Angels, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Estes set a career high in strikeouts Wednesday but fell one out shy of a second consecutive quality start. The 22-year-old was lifted from the contest in favor of Austin Adams without having allowed a run, but Estes was responsible for a pair of runners who'd come around to score later in the inning. On the year, Estes owns a 5.24 ERA with a 39:12 K:BB over 46.1 innings. He's scheduled for a rematch with the Angels early next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:00 pm
