• Added as 27th man
The Giants recalled Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Advice: Fitzgerald will serve as the team's 27th man during Thursday's game against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. The utility player is likely to be sent back to Sacramento following the contest. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:11 am
  • Reaches three times in win
Schuemann went 0-for-2 with three walks and a run in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Schuemann's busy night on the basepaths surprisingly led to only one run, but it did push his OBP back up to an improving .318. The rookie has hit safely in three of the last four games, and his walk rate has now hit double digits (10.1 percent) after also sitting at that threshold in each of the last six minor-league stops before his promotion. • Paul Dejong gets a day off on Thursday
Paul Dejong is not in the lineup for the White Sox on Thursday against the Astros.

Advice: Dejong will take a seat with Nicky Lopez sliding over to shortstop and Danny Mendick playing second base. The veteran is having a great month of June, hitting .246 with six home runs, nine runs, and 11 RBI in 17 games. The power is obviously really nice, but the poor team context around him is keeping his counting stats a little low given his home run total. He has also never hit for a high batting average and is still under .250 even with the power, so he’s really just an add if you’re looking for home runs from your middle infield spot. • Out of Thursday's lineup
Walls is out of the lineup for Thursday's contest in Minnesota, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Walls started six of eight games at shortstop after returning from the injured list June 7 but has now been in the lineup just once over the last five tilts, though he was battling an illness for some of that time. Jose Caballero will cover shortstop Thursday in Walls' stead. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am

  • Getting maintenance day
DeJong is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Advice: He'll receive a breather for the day game after a night game, opening up a turn at shortstop for Nicky Lopez. DeJong had started each of the White Sox's previous 21 games and was one of the team's most productive hitters over that stretch, batting .235 with 11 extra-base hits (seven home runs, four doubles), 12 RBI and 10 runs. • Austin Martin starting again for Twins
Austin Martin is starting at second base for the Twins on Thursday with Willi Castro on the bench.

Advice: Martin has now started four straight games and five of six since being promoted from Triple-A. Martin is 7-for-15 in those five games with four runs, two RBI, and a steal. If the Twins continue to move him all over the field and keep him in the starting lineup then Martin could produce enough value to be rostered in deeper formats. Kyle Farmer will play up the middle with Martin at shortstop with Carlos Correa getting a day off. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:01 am

  • Sitting out Thursday
Perdomo isn't in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Nationals.

Advice: Perdomo had started five straight games and seven of eight since returning from the injured list June 11, but he'll begin the series finale in Washington on the bench. Kevin Newman will handle shortstop for the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:24 am

  • Remains at DH
Smith started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Advice: Smith returned from a hamstring injury Tuesday but has been limited to DH duties in both games, and he's still made an impact with his bat. In the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday, he doubled in a run then scored a game-tying run. Smith is 3-for-7 with a home run, a double, four RBI and an additional run scored in the two games at DH. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:46 am

  • Gets another start
Espinal started at third base and went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh.

Advice: Espinal received a second consecutive start at the hot corner, as Jeimer Candelario (tendinitis) was unavailable. This could be a situation where manager David Bell is giving Candelario multiple days to rest up, including a team day off Thursday, so that he'll be ready to go Friday when the Reds open a home series against the suddenly hot Red Sox.
