    Advice: Rogers rebounded nicely on Wednesday afternoon at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park, limiting Detroit’s upstart lineup to just three hits and a pair of walks over five frames, after being demolished for five runs over 3 1/3 innings his last time out against the Phillies. The 26-year-old southpaw hasn’t come close to re-discovering the form that made him a breakout sensation during the 2021 campaign, but this outing certainly represents a step in the right direction. His six strikeouts were his highest single-start total since April 17.     Advice: Mize served up a two-run homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the opening frame, which wound up being enough to saddle him with a loss in this one as Detroit’s offense was shut out by Trevor Rogers and a quartet of Miami relievers. He struck out six and only handed out one free pass. The 27-year-old former top prospect will bring a strong 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 32/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a favorable road matchup on Tuesday agains the Royals.   • Robert Gasser silences Pirates to net second win
    Robert Gasser allowed one run over five innings on Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

    Advice: Gasser got plenty of support from Milwaukee’s offense, which wound up tagging opposing starter Martín Pérez for nine runs over five frames to open the contest, enabling Gasser to cruise to a relatively easy win in his second big league outing. He finished with two strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 24-year-old southpaw wasn’t overpowering, as evidenced by just eight swinging strikes, but he managed to avoid hard contact in this one, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just six batted balls with an exit velocity in excess of 95 mph. He’ll bring a sparkling 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 6/1 K/BB ratio across 11 innings (two starts) into an extremely tasty road matchup on Tuesday against the Marlins. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

    Martín Pérez was torched for nine runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Brewers.

    Advice: Yikes. Pérez put together one of the worst outings of his extensive big-league career on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee, matching a career-high in terms of runs allowed, while also setting a new career-high mark by allowing five home runs. The 33-year-old left-hander’s ERA skyrocketed from 3.60 entering this one to a bloated 4.86 mark in the process. He’ll attempt to rebound on Tuesday when he faces the injury-depleted Giants at home.   • Goes on IL with rotator cuff injury
    The Athletics placed Wood (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left rotator cuff tendinitis.

    Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Wood will be eligible to come off the IL as soon as May 28. Given Wood's long track record of injuries and history as a slow healer, however, fantasy managers who have been rostering the veteran southpaw should probably prepare for him to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Wood's shoulder issue had been bothering him during his most recent start this past Sunday in Seattle, prompting the Athletics to pull him after just two innings while his fastball velocity was down about two ticks from his season-long average. The Athletics haven't named an immediate replacement in the rotation for Wood, but Kyle Muller tossed four innings in relief of the lefty last Sunday and could be stretched out enough to step into the vacant starting role this weekend in Kansas City.
