    Miller struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Royals.

    Advice: Miller took a blown save in his last outing, though it was because he allowed an inherited runner to score. He's struggled a bit lately, allowing nine runs (six earned) with a 16:7 K:BB across 12.1 innings over his last 10 appearances. He's still performing quite well in the closer role for the Athletics, pitching to a 2.20 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB over 32.2 innings while going 13-for-15 in save chances this year.   • Mason Miller perfect in ninth for 13th save
    Mason Miller recorded his 13th save with a scoreless ninth against the Royals on Tuesday.

    Advice: Miller had it easy tonight, getting one strikeout and a pair of routine flies. He’s had some hiccups of late, but he remains about as good of a bet as any reliever from an ERA and strikeout perspective. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:55 pm
     
  • Short outing vs. Mariners
    McKenzie (3-4) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks over 2.1 innings without recording a strikeout.

    Advice: After holding the Mariners scoreless through his first two innings, McKenzie allowed five of the first six batters to reach safely in the third, ultimately allowing four runs before the Guardians turned to the bullpen. The 26-year-old McKenzie has struggled of late -- he hasn't made it through six innings in five straight starts, posting a 7.04 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA is up to 4.48 on the season with a 1.46 WHIP and 65:42 K:BB across 70.1 innings.   • McKenzie can’t escape third inning in loss
    Triston McKenzie allowed four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 while walking four and striking out nobody in a loss to the Mariners.

    Advice: This is now the fifth straight subpar start for McKenzie, who had an uptick in velocity tonight but saw no benefit from it. We know he’s pitching through an injury, and he’s just clearly not healthy when he’s out there on the mound right now. He didn’t throw a single slider in the strike zone tonight and had just a 40 percent zone rate overall. With Gavin Williams on the way back, you have to wonder if McKenzie might be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation. He’ll take a 4.48 ERA into an okay matchup against the Blue Jays this weekend, but he’s simply tough to trust right now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm
     
  • Lance Lynn has fourth straight rough start
    Lance Lynn allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Marlins.

    Advice: Lynn may have allowed only three extra-base hits, but he allowed 14 hard-hit baseballs and had an average exit velocity allowed of 95 mph. This is now the fourth straight rough start for Lynn, who has not pitched more than 5 1/3 innings in any of those starts, allowing a combined 16 runs (12 earned) in 18 innings. He did get 10 whiffs on 27 swings with his fastball on Tuesday but none of his other pitchers were particularly effective.   • Making season debut Saturday
    Scherzer (back/thumb) will return from the injured list and start against the Royals on Saturday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Scherzer has been on the injured list all season while recovering from offseason back surgery and battling thumb/forearm injuries throughout his rehab process. However, after experiencing no issues following his latest rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock, the 39-year-old veteran has officially been given the green light to return to the Rangers' rotation. He posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP alongside a 17:3 K:BB through 11 innings during his assignment, and it's unclear if the right-hander will be working under any restrictions during his return to a big-league mound.   • Report: Max Scherzer to make ’24 debut Saturday
    The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reports Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will make his season debut on Saturday against the Royals.

    Advice: It’s a soft landing spot for Scherzer, who is finally set to make his season debut after undergoing offseason back surgery and dealing with a nerve-related thumb issue during his rehabilitation process. The 39-year-old veteran isn’t the fantasy stalwart anymore from earlier in his career, but can still make an impact for fantasy managers on a per-start basis moving forward.   • Picks up fourth win
    Skenes (4-0) earned the win Monday against the Reds after he allowed one run in six innings. He gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven.

    Advice: Skenes has been every bit as advertised over his first seven career starts, and he once again showed off an impressive repertoire Monday to get his fourth win. The rookie right-hander has now gone at least six innings in five of his seven starts, and he's reached at least seven strikeouts six times.   • Fans six in no-decision
    Fried allowed a run on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out six during the win over Detroit.

    Advice: Fried worked five scoreless frames until the Tigers finally broke through with a run in the sixth inning. He wasn't very efficient Monday, throwing 60 of 103 pitches for strikes while failing to complete six innings for the second straight outing.
