• Nabs win in relief in MLB debut
Petersen (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two batters over two innings.

Advice: After being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, Petersen saw his first big-league action Tuesday at Coors Field. He entered in the seventh inning with Los Angeles down four runs and allowed the Rockies to increase their lead on a walk, single and sacrifice fly. Petersen returned for the eighth and retired the side in order, then found himself in the win column after the Dodgers pulled ahead with a seven-run ninth frame. Petersen will likely be used mainly in low-leverage spots during his time with the big club. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago
  • Cubs place Keegan Thompson on paternity list
Cubs placed RHP Keegan Thompson on the paternity list.

Advice: Thompson, who picked up a surprising save Wednesday in just his second appearance back in the majors, will rejoin the Cubs in a couple of days. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Moves up to big club
The Orioles selected Maton's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Advice: Outfielder Kyle Stowers was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the 26-man active roster for Maton, who will give the Orioles some extra coverage in the infield while Jordan Westburg is day-to-day with a bruised hip. Even if Westburg doesn't heal as quickly as expected and eventually moves to the injured list, Ramon Urias would likely be in line ahead of Maton for a regular role in the infield. Maton had produced a .294/.387/.483 slash line and seven home runs over 168 plate appearances with Norfolk. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago

  • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Orioles transferred Wells (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: The move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Nick Maton, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. Wells is out of the season after undergoing an internal brace procedure on his right elbow this week. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

  • Sent back to Norfolk
The Orioles optioned Stowers to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Advice: Stowers posted a respectable .763 OPS over his five-week stay with the Orioles, but the club simply didn't have regular playing time available for him. He had started in just one of Baltimore's last nine games, so Baltimore will send him back to Norfolk so that he can see steadier at-bats. Utility man Nick Maton was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

  • Orioles call up INF Nick Maton from Triple-A
Orioles selected the contract of INF/OF Nick Maton from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Maton was hitting .292/.390/.481 in 182 plate appearances in the minors this season. He’ll serve as a reserve infielder until Jordan Westburg is feeling better. The Orioles could keep him around afterwards, too, since he probably makes more sense as a seldom-used 26th man than any of the younger players on the 40-man roster. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Hurts forearm on rehab assignment
Ortiz (shoulder/ankle) was removed from his rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley due to forearm soreness, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Ortiz was placed on the 15-day injured list March 31 with a sprained left ankle, but he's now picked up new injuries on both of his rehab assignments. He began his initial assignment in late April, only to get shut down after two appearances with Single-A Clearwater due to right shoulder inflammation. He restarted the assignment June 11 and made three appearances before the forearm issue flared up. The severity of the forearm issue isn't yet fully known, but expect Ortiz to get shut down again for some time before he's cleared to start pitching in rehab games. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago

  • Kyle Stowers gets sent down by Orioles
Orioles optioned OF Kyle Stowers to Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Stowers loses his roster spot because Juan Soto ran into Jordan Westburg last night and the Orioles don’t want to play down an infielder. Stowers was barely playing anyway, having totaled 36 plate appearances in five weeks with the club. He hit .286/.278/.486. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

  • Set for rehab assignment
Clemens (back) will begin a rehab assignment later this week, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Gelb notes that Clemens is set to receive regular reps in left field while on his rehab assignment. It's a position he's played a little bit both in the majors and minors, and it now looks like his best path to playing time in the majors with Brandon Marsh slated to see most of his starts in center field following Johan Rojas' demotion to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Clemens has been out since early June with lower-back spasms. Rotowire.com 56 minutes ago
