    • Moving to bench for nightcap
Garcia is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.

Advice: Garcia started at second base in the Royals' 6-4 win in the early game, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. He'll receive a breather for the nightcap while Michael Massey covers the keystone. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

    • Reds activate Jake Fraley from emergency list
Reds activated OF Jake Fraley from the family medical emergency list.

Advice: The 29-year-old outfielder is back in uniform on Wednesday night, though he is not in the Reds’ lineup for their showdown against the Rockies and left-hander Kyle Freeland. Blake Dunn was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

    • Returns from personal leave
The Reds reinstated Fraley (personal) from the family medical emergency list Wednesday.

Advice: Though the lefty-hitting Fraley is back with the club in Cincinnati, he'll be out of the lineup Wednesday while the Rockies send southpaw Kyle Freeland to the hill. Fraley hadn't played since July 4 and missed three games shortly before his leave of absence due to a calf issue, so the Reds could be inclined to ease him back into action a bit. He should eventually settle back into an everyday role against right-handed pitching, making starts as a corner outfielder or as a designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 1:23 pm

    • Resting against southpaw
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: After starting against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three games, O'Hearn will head to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Shota Imanaga takes the hill for the Cubs. With O'Hearn receiving the day off, Adley Rutschman will cede catching duties to James McCann and occupy O'Hearn's usual spot in the lineup at designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 12:28 pm

    • Report: Pirates talking to Halos about Taylor Ward
The Pirates are in talks with the Angels on a Taylor Ward trade, according to 93.7 The Fan’s Paul Zeise.

Advice: Ward would presumably play right field in Pittsburgh, replacing Joshua Palacios. Ward is still rather inexpensive and is under control through 2026, so it’d take a significant return to get the Angels to part with him. One imagines right-hander Bubba Chandler would be high on the list of prospects the Angels would like to get their hands on. Rotoworld Today, 9:30 am

    • Strong start goes to waste
Kikuchi did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Giants. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out 13 over 7.1 innings while not walking a batter.

Advice: Kikuchi set a new career-high with 13 strikeouts in this one and notched his fifth career 10-strikeout game. Both runs against him came via the long ball. Heliot Ramos took him deep in the fourth and then Tyler Fitzgerald led off the eighth with a solo blast, which ended Kikuchi's night at 100 pitches. He was still in line for the win at that point with the Blue Jays leading 3-2, but that lead was eventually squandered in the ninth. Tuesday's outing certainly boosted Kikuchi's trade value if the Blue Jays end up selling at the deadline, however, he does have a 6.38 ERA and has given up eight homers over his last five starts. For the year, Kikuchi owns a 4.00 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 111:23 K:BB in 101.1 innings. He lines up for another start over the weekend against the Diamondbacks before the All-Star break. • Yusei Kikuchi strikes out career-high 13 batters
Yusei Kikuchi fanned a career-high 13 while limiting the Giants to two runs over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday.

Advice: It’s Kikuchi’s fifth career 10-strikeout game and first since he joined the Blue Jays in 2022. The showing should help his trade value some, but he still has a 6.38 ERA in his last five starts, mostly because he’s given up eight homers. Kikuchi will take a 4-8 record and a 4.00 ERA into his final start before the break, which will come Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:36 pm
    • Grabs fifth win
Pepiot (5-5) earned the win Tuesday over the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: After allowing a run in the first inning, Pepiot held New York scoreless over his final 4.2 frames, allowing just two additional hits before the Rays turned to the bullpen with two outs in the sixth. It's the first win since June 4 for the 26-year-old Pepiot -- he'd gone 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA in his previous five outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 4.20 with a 1.13 WHIP and 90:31 K:BB across 16 starts (81.1 innings) this season. Pepiot is currently lined up to face the Guardians at home this weekend in his next outing. • Ryan Pepiot strong in win over Yankees
Ryan Pepiot allowed one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Yankees on Tuesday.

Advice: Pepiot also struck out seven but walked three on the day as well and was pulled after throwing 101 pitches. He induced 12 whiffs on 42 swings for a 29 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. While the right-hander didn’t get many whiffs on his fastball on Tuesday, the pitch is the key to his potential success. He has thrown it up in the zone way more effectively than he did back when he was with the Dodgers, and his secondaries are starting to find some consistency. He seems like a glaring second-half breakout candidate and should be started in a tough matchup against the Guardians this weekend. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:03 pm
