• Loses 40-man spot
The Guardians designated McCaughan for assignment Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: McCaughan will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Gavin Williams (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Since the Guardians acquired him from the Marlins on May 9, McCaughan made two appearances out of the Cleveland bullpen, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and six walks over six innings. He'll stick around in the organization as starting depth at Triple-A Columbus if he clears waivers. Rotowire.com Today, 9:00 am
  • Moves to 60-day IL
The Mets transferred Raley (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Advice: One month ago, Raley underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery with an internal brace augmentation, so his move to the 60-day IL was merely procedure. As a result of the transaction, the Mets were able to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Matt Festa, who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Sunday's game against the Astros. • Contract selected
The Mets selected Jay's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Advice: The left-hander was called up for his MLB debut in April but was removed from the 40-man roster after making just two appearances. Jay has a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB over 36 innings at Triple-A this season and will now receive another look in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 8:14 am
  • Sent to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Young to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Advice: The left-hander was recalled by the Mets last weekend and made four appearances during the brief stint in the majors, allowing six runs on six hits with a 4:2 K:BB over 3.1 innings. Young has a 5.11 ERA across 13 outings with the big club this year. Rotowire.com Today, 8:02 am
  • Spencer Howard obliterated in no-decision
Spencer Howard was obliterated in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday evening, giving up six runs on six hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: Woof. Howard came on after Erik Miller had worked a scoreless first inning as an opener. He gave up single runs in the second and third innings — including a solo homer off the bat of Shohei Ohtani. Howard was then gifted a three-run lead heading into the fourth inning where he gave it all back and then some — allowing run-scoring singles to Miguel Rojas and Gavin Lux before exiting in the four-run frame. The 27-year-old hurler got six swings and misses on 57 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He now holds an uninspiring 5.63 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 24 innings on the season. • Optioned to Columbus
The Guardians optioned McCaughan to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Advice: After being recalled by the big club Thursday, McCaughan pitched four innings against the Royals on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for right-hander Eli Morgan (elbow), who was activated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:50 am
  • Guardians option Darren McCaughan to Triple-A
Guardians optioned RHP Darren McCaughan to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: McCaughan was up for just a couple days as extra relief depth for Cleveland before getting Eli Morgan back from the injured list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 am
  • Helsley barely avoids game-tying homer in save
Ryan Helsley worked a flawless ninth for his 29th save Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Helsley very nearly surrendered a game-tying homer to Stuart Fairchild with two outs in the ninth, but Brendan Donovan made a jumping catch at the wall. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 14 of the 30 parks. This was a very quick outing for Helsley — he threw just six pitches — so even though he’s worked four out of six days, there’s a good chance he’ll be available Saturday. • Extends saves lead
Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season, and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25. He dropped his season ERA to 2.68 alongside a 44:16 K:BB. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:43 pm
