    Advice: Wesneski has previously made three starts for the Cubs this season, though none have come since May 8. While he'll be available on four days' rest after having made his last relief appearance Friday, Wesneski probably isn't built up enough to handle a traditional starter's workload. The Cubs are likely to move Wesneski back to the bullpen following Wednesday's game, as he was merely added to the rotation this week to give left-hander Shota Imanaga an extra day of rest between starts.     Trent Thornton tossed a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Rays to record his first career save.

    Advice: Thornton was brought on to guard a four-run lead with the bases loaded in the final frame after Andrés Muñoz issued a pair of walks and also hit a batter to open the ninth inning. It technically qualified as a save situation since the tying run was in the on-deck circle. He got Richie Palacios to ground into a fielder’s choice before coaxing a game-ending double play from ensuing batter Amed Rosario to put out the fire and preserve the win.     Gallen (hamstring) threw 67 pitches in a simulated game Monday and will next have a bullpen session Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: The Diamondbacks were preparing for Gallen to throw Monday, whether in a sim game or live batting practice, and decided on the sim game. He next heads to Chase Field on Thursday for a bullpen session, which will be caught by Gabriel Moreno, who is nursing a sprained left thumb.     Edward Cabrera (shoulder) struck out seven over four hitless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville.

    Advice: Cabrera issued two walks and threw 37 of 60 pitches for strikes in his latest rehab outings. The 26-year-old righty, who has been out since early May recovering from a right shoulder impingement, appears to be getting closer to returning to Miami’s injury-depleted starting rotation.     Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday.

    Advice: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters they’ll make a decision on Gallen’s next step following his latest throwing session. The hope here for fantasy managers is that the 28-year-old ace will be ready to jump right back into Arizona’s starting rotation without needing a rehab assignment.     Ferrer (shoulder) struck out all four of the batters he faced during a live throwing session Monday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

    Advice: Ferrer was cleared to face live hitters June 14 and is presumably close to a minor-league rehab assignment following an impressive showing Monday.     Advice: Perez got his pitch count up to 65 in a rehab outing with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday and threw some more pitches in the bullpen following the appearance. He's rejoined the Pirates in Cincinnati and will throw a bullpen session Tuesday.
