    Advice: Paddack had his shortest outing of the year after twice allowing the Athletics to counter the Twins' early offense. Over his last seven outings, Paddack has allowed four or more runs four times, but he's limited opponents to two runs or less in the other three starts in that span. He's at a 5.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 73.2 innings over 14 starts this year, so inconsistency is just part of the deal for the right-hander.     Advice: All three runs charged to Singer came via home run, with Shohei Ohtani slugging a solo shot in the third inning and going back-to-back with Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning. Sunday's start was Singer's first allowing multiple home runs and was his second time in seven appearances completing six innings.     Ohtani went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Royals.

    Advice: Ohtani teed off on Brady Singer, tagging the Royals' starter for solo homers in the third and sixth innings for Ohtani's second multi-homer game of 2024. The 29-year-old is now up to 19 home runs on the season, tied for fourth-most in MLB.     Ober (6-4) allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings to earn the win over the Athletics in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

    Advice: Ober had his start pushed back a day after a rainout Saturday. This was his first quality start since May 12 and the first time he's completed six innings in that span. The right-hander has had a mediocre season so far with a 4.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 73:20 K:BB over 73 innings through 14 starts.   • Shifts rehab to Single-A
    Marquez (elbow) struck out four and allowed six hits and no walks over 2.1 innings in a rehab start Sunday with Single-A Fresno.

    Advice: Marquez resumed his minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League before moving up to the Rockies' Single-A affiliate three days later. While he was knocked around a bit and gave up two home runs among his six hits, Marquez at least exhibited solid control on the night, spotting 36 of his 52 pitches for strikes. The right-hander will likely need two or three more starts in the minors to get fully stretched out before the Rockies are comfortable activating him from the 60-day injured list and inserting him into the rotation.   • Chris Paddack hit hard in no-decision on Sunday
    Chris Paddack was hit hard in a no-decision against the Athletics on Sunday night, surrendering five runs on five hits in only 2 1/3 innings.

    Advice: Paddack also walked a batter in the ballgame and didn’t record a single strikeout. Twice the Twins staked him to early leads in this one, and both times he gave it right back the following inning. The A’s scratched out three runs against him in the second inning, then JJ Bleday and Tyler Soderstrom tagged him for solo homers to chase him from the game in the third. The 28-year-old right-hander got just two swings and misses on 46 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 24 percent.     Montas allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over five-plus innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out five during the loss to Milwaukee.

    Advice: Montas rolled through four shutout frames before the Brewers finally pushed a run home in the fifth inning. He was removed after putting two straight runners on base to begin the sixth and was charged with both after Willy Adames launched a three-run homer. Montas took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Rockies on June 4 but has since been tagged with seven runs in just 6.1 frames over his last two starts.     Dunning (4-6) took the loss Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out eight.

    Advice: Dunning failed to complete five innings for the fourth time in his last six starts, getting pulled with two outs in the fifth Sunday after allowing Josh Rojas to hit a double and score from second on a wild pitch before walking Julio Rodriguez. While Dunning hasn't surrendered more than five hits in an outing this season, he's had plenty of issues with the long ball, allowing 1.7 HR/9. The 29-year-old has flashed the best strikeout stuff of his career with a 10.2 K/9, but his lack of depth and vulnerability to home runs makes him incredibly volatile.   • Joey Estes hit hard in no-decision on Sunday
    Joey Estes was hit hard in a no-decision against the Twins on Sunday night, surrendering six runs on eight hits in only 2 2/3 innings of work.

    Advice: It’s really a testament to the A’s offense that Estes wound up with a no-decision here instead of a loss. The 22-year-old hurler punched out two batters on the evening while allowing one base on balls. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Royce Lewis crushed a two-run homer in the first inning and Trevor Larnach added a three-run shot in the second. Estes got five whiffs on 65 pitches in the ballgame, posting a minuscule CSW of only 18 percent.
