  • Guardians recall Jhonkensy Noel to make MLB debut
    Guardians recalled OF Jhonkensy Noel from Triple-A Columbus.

    Advice: Noel had an 1.156 OPS for Columbus this month, putting him at .295/.359/.578 with 18 homers for the season. It’s unclear how much of a role the Guardians will carve out for him versus righties, but he should definitely be the right fielder against lefties. He struggled to hit for average in previous years, and he’s a zero when it comes to steals, so he’ll need to keep showing plenty of power in order to be useful in fantasy leagues.   • Summoned to big leagues
    The Guardians recalled Noel from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. He'll start at first base and bat sixth in the Guardians' series finale in Baltimore.

    Advice: Noel will hit the big leagues for the first time. The 22-year-old slashed .295/.359/.578 with 18 home runs over 65 games with Columbus this season. Much of that production has come since the start of May, with Noel producing a .343/.404/.651 line with 14 home runs in 43 contests over that stretch. Noel has also struck out at just an 18.1-percent rate since May 1, which is a positive development for a player who has often struggled to make contact during his minor-league career.     Bauers will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

    Advice: Bauers will be included in the lineup for the second game in a row and for the third time in four games after producing three hits over his prior two starts. The 29-year-old is still getting on base at a lowly .279 clip for the season, so despite seeing his playing time trend upward of late, he's hardly locked into an everyday role for Milwaukee.     Kiermaier went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

    Advice: Getting the start in center field and batting ninth, Kiermaier produced his first multi-hit performance since May 8. The veteran defensive whiz came into the game slashing a woeful .111/.135/.194 over 38 plate appearances in June with a 46.2-percent strikeout rate, and only a recent back issue for Daulton Varsho has given Kiermaier consistent starts again.     Noel is slashing .402/.471/.705 with nine home runs and a 14.5-percent strikeout rate in his last 30 games for Triple-A Columbus.

    Advice: With Kyle Manzardo failing to take a big-league job and run with it and Noel already being on the 40-man roster, Noel could get a shot as Cleveland's designated hitter sometime this summer. The righty-hitting slugger has huge raw power, and while he has seen 25 starts in the corner outfield spots this season, he's probably too big (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) to get regular starts in the outfield at the highest level.     Jimenez went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

    Advice: Jimenez started in his third consecutive game since being activated from the injured list Sunday, and he has one hit in each contest. His performance Tuesday marked his first extra-base hit in that span, and he also has one RBI and one run scored. Jimenez has hit either third or fourth in every game since his return.     Sheets is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

    Advice: The lefty-hitting Sheets will hit the bench while the Dodgers send southpaw James Paxton to the mound. Sheets had started the previous five games while the White Sox faced off against right-handed pitchers, but he'll likely begin to sit out some of those matchups more frequently after Chicago returned Eloy Jimenez from the injured list Sunday. With Jimenez occupying the designated-hitter spot, Andrew Vaughn locked in at first base and Andrew Benintendi and Tommy Pham serving as the White Sox's primary starters in the corner outfield, all four of Sheets' avenues for regular playing time would seem to be blocked.
