• Angels activate and option Sam Bachman on Friday
Angels activated RHP Sam Bachman from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Double-A Rocket City.

Advice: The 24-year-old hurler has already been stationed at Double-A Rocket City on his minor league rehab assignment, but he’ll remain there while he continues to build back up following a lengthy stint on the injured list. Bachman is working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Jordan Wicks (oblique) expected to land on IL
Cubs’ manager Craig Counsell admitted after Friday’s loss to the Cardinals that Jordan Wicks will likely land on the 15-day injured list with the oblique strain that he suffered on Friday.

Advice: Wicks was pulled from his outing against the Cardinals after just 1 2/3 innings after sustaining the injury. Kyle Hendricks did a nice job in relief of him on Friday and he seems like the most logical candidate to replace Wicks in the Cubs’ rotation. As always, he makes for an unappealing option for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • IL stint likely
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after Friday's 3-0 loss to the Cardinals that Wicks will get an MRI for his right oblique and that a stint on the injured list is "likely," Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Wicks was lifted from Friday's game after just 1.2 innings due to right oblique discomfort. He was previously on the injured list due to a left forearm strain that kept him out of action for nearly six weeks. Wicks made two appearances since being activated off the IL on June 7, including Friday's start. Kyle Hendricks came in to replace Wicks on Friday, and the former figures to enter the Cubs' rotation due to the latter's injury. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Up to 23 saves
Helsley worked around a pair of walks in the ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Cubs. He struck out two.

Advice: After recording the first two outs in the ninth, Helsley issued consecutive walks to Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ before ultimately striking out Nico Hoerner to close out the shutout victory while earning his MLB-leading 23rd save of the year. Helsley has yet to blow a save since March 30, his first appearance of the season. His ERA is down to 2.61 with a 1.13 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB across 31 innings. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • One more rehab start needed
Freeland (elbow) allowed one run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts during a start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. He'll likely require one more rehab start at Albuquerque before joining the Rockies, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: Freeland made his second rehab appearance Thursday, but it was his first at the Triple-A level. The lone run attributed to Freeland came on a solo homer. Still the left-hander is expected to appear in one more rehab game before returning to the Rockies toward the end of June. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

  • Kyle Gibson goes seven in shutout of Cubs
Kyle Gibson blanked the Cubs for seven innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 shutout Friday.

Advice: Gibson gave up a long fly to Cody Bellinger that probably would have been a homer on another day, but not this one. Apart from that, he was very effective in allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six. He almost missed out on a win anyway; Patrick Wisdom absolutely crushed a ball in the eighth that by all rights should have been a go-ahead, two-run homer. Instead, the wind crushed it right back, resulting in a 354-foot flyout. It’s the first time in 14 starts this season in which Gibson has gone without allowing a run. He’s 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA. • Ryan Helsley picks up 23rd save with hitless ninth
Ryan Helsley notched his 23rd save Friday with a hitless ninth against the Cubs.

Advice: Helsley walked a pair of batters with two outs, drawing a visit from the pitching coach, but he then struck out Nico Hoerner to end the game. Since it was his third appearance in four days, he might be down tomorrow, potentially giving Andrew Kittredge a save chance. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
  • Kyle Hendricks goes 4 1/3 scoreless in relief
Kyle Hendricks pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings after replacing an injured Jordan Wicks in the second Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Hendricks struck out just one, but he walked none and allowed only one hard-hit ball. One imagines Wicks will join Ben Brown on the IL tomorrow, likely resulting in Hendricks’ return to the rotation. That doesn’t make him a fantasy option, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he does a better job of holding his own this time around. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
  • Stymies Chicago
Gibson (5-2) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Gibson was excellent Friday, turning in a season-high seven innings in his first scoreless outing of the year. The 36-year-old Gibson has been solid of late, working to a 2.19 ERA over his last five starts. Overall, his ERA is down to 3.44 on the campaign with a 1.20 WHIP and 73:31 K:BB across 83.2 innings. Gibson's currently scheduled to face the Marlins on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
