      The Astros will recall Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Friday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: It's not yet clear what the corresponding roster move will be. Loperfido has slashed .272/.365/.568 with 13 home runs and nine stolen bases this season with Sugar Land and has hit .333/.381/.436 with one homer and one steal in 15 games with the Astros. Contact has been an issue at both spots, as he had a 28 percent strikeout rate at Sugar Land and a 39.5 percent strikeout rate in Houston. The power and speed potential is real, however. Loperfido played only center field during his most recent stint in the minors, so while he does have some experience at first base, the Astros seem to still be viewing him mostly as an option in the outfield.       Advice: Lugo held the A's scoreless until Zack Gelof tagged him for a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning. The blast tied the game, costing Lugo a chance at his 11th win of the campaign. The right-hander nonetheless notched his 12th quality start, which is tied for the MLB lead.       KPRC 2 Houston’s Ari Alexander reports the Astros are recalling top prospect Joey Loperfido for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

      Advice: No surprise here as the injury-depleted Astros find themselves desperate for some extra offensive firepower. The 25-year-old slugging prospect boasts big-time over-the-fence pop, but still has some strikeout issues to address. There might be a clearer path to regular at-bats at first base moving forward with veteran José Abreu no longer in the picture, but he doesn’t have a ton of experience at the cold corner.       Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

      Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames. He gave up four hits and also issued three walks. The 25-year-old top pitching prospect has recorded 24 strikeouts over his last three starts since June 8. It’s time.       Mountcastle went 3-for-6 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's win over the Yankees while also drawing a walk.

      Advice: Mountcastle increased Baltimore's lead to six runs with a three-run double in the second before also coming around to score later in the frame. He would go on to reach base four times in the game while also driving in another run, matching his season high with four RBI.       Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Athletics on Thursday.

      Seth Lugo allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.



      Advice: Lugo gave up six hits, walked three and struck out eight. He allowed a two-run game-tying home run to Zack Gelof in the seventh inning, but it was still another solid effort from Lugo. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Marlins at home next week.
