    • Ryan Helsley blows save in 10th, grabs win in 11th
Ryan Helsey blew the save Friday against the Nationals despite not allowing an earned run. He also gave up two hits, an intentional walk, and didn’t strike a batter out across two innings.

Advice: A shortcoming of the Ghost Runner rule: Helsley entered a one-run game in the 10th inning, allowed the automatic runner to score from second base, and got tagged with a blown save. He did well to get out of a jam with runners on second and third with one out when Juan Yepez lined into an inning ending double play. He hung on for a 1-2-3 inning in the 11th inning and still managed to snag the win. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago
    • Slated for flat-ground throwing
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Montgomery (knee) will begin throwing off flat ground Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Lovullo noted that Montgomery is still dealing with a bit of inflammation in his right knee, but the team believes he'll be in good enough condition to throw. Assuming all goes well Saturday, the 31-year-old southpaw will likely be given the green light to begin throwing off a mound within the next several days. Rotowire.com Today, 6:35 pm
    • Montgomery set to throw off flat ground Saturday
Jordan Montgomery (knee) is scheduled to throw off of flat ground on Saturday.

Advice: Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Montgomery is still dealing with some inflammation in his knee, but the expectation is that he’ll be good enough to resume throwing on Saturday. Depending on how Saturday’s session goes, the club may be able to give a timeline for when the 31-year-old southpaw may be able to return. Rotoworld Today, 6:03 pm
    • Rejoins big-league club
The Dodgers recalled Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: With Jason Heyward (knee) headed for the injured list, Outman will get the call back to Los Angeles in order to replenish the Dodgers' outfield depth. Since being demoted to Triple-A in May, the 27-year-old has slashed .285/.396/.556 with 10 homers and 22 RBI in 182 plate appearances. He isn't likely to see regular playing time while Heyward is sidelined, but there's a chance Outman makes an occasional start against right-handed pitchers in order to give one of the usual starters a breather. • Dodgers recall James Outman from Triple-A OKC
Dodgers recalled OF James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 27-year-old outfielder will replace the injured Jason Heyward (knee) on the Dodgers’ active roster. Outman really struggled during his time with the Dodgers to start the season (slashing .147/.250/.266 in 109 at-bats), but we’ve seen what he’s capable of during his breakout 2023 season. If he sees regular action against right-handed pitching while Heyward is shelved, he could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 4:16 pm

    • Andrew McCutchen getting a night off on Friday
Andrew McCutchen is not in the Pirates’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s series opener against the Mets.

Advice: It sounds like it’s just a regular day of maintenance for the 37-year-old slugger. McCutchen has already appeared in 73 games for the Bucs this season — slashing .229/.329/.396 with 12 homers, 25 RBI and two stolen bases in 316 plate appearances. Bryan Reynolds will function as the Pirates’ designated hitter in his place with Jack Suwinski and Michael A. Taylor each getting starts in the outfield. Rotoworld Today, 1:03 pm

    • Harrison Bader (neck) returns to lineup on Friday
Harrison Bader (neck) returned to the Mets’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates.

Advice: The 30-year-old outfielder sat out each of the team’s last two games with soreness in his neck that he suffered when he crashed into the outfield wall on Tuesday. Unfortunately, his reward for returning on Friday is a tough matchup against rookie phenom Paul Skenes. Bader will start in center field and bat ninth for the Mets on Friday evening in Pittsburgh. • Back in lineup
Bader is batting ninth and playing center field Friday against Pittsburgh.

Advice: Bader had missed back-to-back games with a head injury after colliding with the outfield wall Tuesday. However, he's recovered from the injury and will return to his regular spot in center field. Rotowire.com Today, 12:29 pm

    • Taking seat Friday
McCutchen is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

Advice: McCutchen will get his first day off since June 13, handing DH duties over to Bryan Reynolds while Joshua Palacios leads off. McCutchen is 2-for-19 with eight strikeouts over his last five games. However, both hits went for extra bases. Rotowire.com Today, 11:17 am
