Kyle Gibson blanked the Cubs for seven innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 shutout Friday.
Advice: Gibson gave up a long fly to Cody Bellinger that probably would have been a homer on another day, but not this one. Apart from that, he was very effective in allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six. He almost missed out on a win anyway; Patrick Wisdom absolutely crushed a ball in the eighth that by all rights should have been a go-ahead, two-run homer. Instead, the wind crushed it right back, resulting in a 354-foot flyout. It’s the first time in 14 starts this season in which Gibson has gone without allowing a run. He’s 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA.
