    • Used as pinch runner
Fraley (hand) entered Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning loss to the Padres as a pinch runner in the 10th inning.

Advice: Fraley ran for Jeimer Candelario, who had walked, and presumably was only going to run the bases. The Reds didn't score in the extra frame, but the activity suggests the outfielder could return to the lineup Friday or at some point during the weekend series against the Dodgers. • Leading off again
Hurtubise batted leadoff and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning loss to San Diego.

Advice: After the Padres jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Hurtubise made thing happen for the Reds in the bottom of the frame. He was hit by a pitch then stole second base before scoring on a Jeimer Candelario triple. This was Hurtubise's third start as the leadoff batter -- all against right-handers -- and he's been removed for a pinch hitter in all three. He's 3-for-14 with three walks, one stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored over nine games since his callup. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
    • Grabs first hits, steal of season
Wisely went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Wisely's playing time has been sparse, but he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and one RBI over his first five major-league games of the season. He got the start at shortstop Thursday and delivered with a multi-hit effort, as well as his first steal of the campaign. The utility man hit .175 with a .498 OPS, two home runs and two steals over 131 plate appearances in the majors last year. Wisely can cover the middle infield and all three outfield spots, but it's unlikely he comes anywhere near steady playing time in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:12 pm

    • Pham has three-hit game Thursday
Tommy Pham went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Pham continues to produce out of the leadoff spot for Chicago. His average is up to .333 on the season. He’s been one of the best pickups of the season considering he started the year without a team.

    • Clevinger allows five in loss Thursday
Mike Clevinger allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Clevinger allowed an RBI single to Adley Rutschman in the third inning before allowing two home runs in the fourth inning. Anthony Santander hit a solo home run to start the inning. After back-to-back two out singles by Ryan Mountcastle and Cedric Mullins, Jorge Mateo hit a three-run home run to put the Orioles ahead 5-2. Clevinger hasn’t completed five innings in any of his four starts this season. His ERA is up to 6.75 on the season. The 33-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Blue Jays at home next week.

    • Picks up second win
Jackson (2-1) allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over one inning, earning the win Thursday over the Pirates.

Advice: Jackson allowed a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the seventh inning, but the Giants pulled ahead with a five-run eighth. Jackson has been scored on in four of his last five outings, allowing multiple baserunners each time he's given up at least a run. The homer was the first he's allowed all year. Jackson is at an uninspiring 5.84 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB with two holds and three blown saves over 12.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:58 pm
    • Ineffective again Thursday
Faedo allowed three runs on three hits and a walk across 1.2 innings of relief in Thursday's 9-1 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out one.

Advice: After starting the season with a 2.25 ERA across his first 14 appearances, Faedo has allowed runs in his last three outings, and he has a 9.00 ERA during that stretch. The righty was a middling starter the last two years, and while he's looked a little better out of the bullpen, he may be regressing closer to his career 4.67 ERA. Faedo doesn't have a ton of fantasy value in his current middle-relief role, particularly given his recent struggles. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:55 pm

    • Works behind opener
Black allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings versus the Pirates on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

Advice: Black has been inconsistent as a starter this season, and his first turn working behind an opener was arguably even worse. He's allowed at least four runs in three of his four appearances, and this was the first time he failed to complete three innings. Black has an 8.79 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 14.1 innings on the year. While he has excelled at Triple-A Sacramento, it appears he still needs a bit more time at that level before he can be an effective major-leaguer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:55 pm
    • Loses again Thursday
Wesneski (2-3) allowed a run on one hit across 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss Thursday against Atlanta. He had no walks and struck out two.

Advice: Chicago starter Ben Brown tossed four scoreless innings but left with the game tied 0-0. Wesneski took over and promptly allowed a solo home run to Jarred Kelenic, which was enough to get saddled with the loss in what ended up as a 3-0 Atlanta victory. The righty started the season by earning wins in each of his first two appearances, but he's 0-3 across eight outings since then, though he does have a solid 2.55 ERA during this stretch.
