    • Has positive follow-up exam
Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) had a follow-up exam with Reds doctors Wednesday, and he was cleared to take the next step in his rehab, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: While that would seem to be good news for Encarnacion-Strand, who was diagnosed with a right ulnar styloid fracture May 8, he opted to get a second opinion, putting his rehab on hold for the moment. At the time of his diagnosis, Encarnacion-Strand was given a four-to-six week recovery timeline. Rotowire.com Today, 4:51 am
    • CES (wrist) set to resume baseball activities
Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) has been cleared to resume baseball activities.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand has been on the shelf since early May due to a right wrist fracture. The biggest question for fantasy managers moving forward is whether his prodigious over-the-fence power will be adversely impacted. The 24-year-old slugger is going to need several weeks to ramp back up fully prior to returning to Cincinnati, but it’s possible he’s back before next month’s All-Star break. • Hitting on field, fields grounders
Drury (hamstring) will hit on the field and take grounders Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Drury will probably need to run the bases before being cleared for a rehab assignment. It's not clear when that might occur, but he's progressing steadily. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since early May with a left hamstring strain. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:36 pm

    • Brandon Drury (hamstring) works out on field
Brandon Drury hit and took grounders on the field prior to Monday’s game.

Advice: Drury has been out for nearly four weeks due to a hamstring strain, but it sounds like a return date is within site. He’ll probably require a couple of minor league games before being activated. Rotoworld Monday, 3:22 pm

    • Absent from lineup
Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Cardinals.

Advice: Abreu has now started five of eight games since rejoining the Astros' active roster, going 3-for-15 with one home run. He'll cede his spot in the lineup Monday to Jon Singleton, who gets the start at first base. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:10 pm

    • Hits first homer of season
Abreu went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-2 win against the Twins.

Advice: Abreu took Minnesota starter Joe Ryan deep in the second inning for his first long ball of the campaign. It's been a rough season for the veteran first baseman, as he's slashing a meager .119/.167/.167 through 90 plate appearances. Abreu has been a bit better since returning to the big club May 27 following a demotion to the minors, going 3-for-13 (albeit with six strikeouts) over five games. • Targeting mid-June return
Drury (hamstring) said Wednesday that he is aiming to return from the injured list June 11, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Drury has been making steady progress since landing on the injured list May 9 due to a left hamstring injury. He got back to hitting in batting cages last week and recently began baseball activities and a running progression. The 31-year-old infielder will likely embark on a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, though the Angels have not said when that might begin. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:08 pm

    • José Abreu goes 0-for-3, strikes out twice
José Abreu went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: We’d understand the Astros giving Abreu one more shot at Jon Singleton’s expense, and we’d understand setting up a platoon that sees Singleton play versus righties and Abreu against lefties. What we can’t understand is playing both guys, when it means putting both Chas McCormick and Mauricio Dubón on the bench and taking a defensive downgrade with Yordan Alvarez in left field (and increasing the injury risk for Alvarez). Still, that’s exactly what the Astros have done in both games since Abreu returned from exile. It’s a bad strategy, and the team has paid the price the last two days. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:00 pm
