• Jeimer Candelario out Thursday with knee tendinitis
Jeimer Candelario (knee) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s contest against the Cardinals.

Advice: Candelario will get another day off to rest and recover as he continues to manage right knee tendinitis. The expectation is that he’ll be able to manage the ongoing issue moving forward, but if he’s unable to return in a couple days, the Reds might not have a choice besides sending him to the injured list. • Remaining out Thursday
Candelario (hamstring) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis for the past week, and while the team still doesn't plan on placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, the injury will cause him to miss a second consecutive game. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base as a result, allowing Nick Martini to start in left field and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:59 pm

  • Reds activate prospect Noelvi Marte for ’24 debut
Reds activated INF Noelvi Marte from the restricted list.

Advice: Marte returns to Cincinnati’s lineup for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals after serving an 80-game suspension following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance. The 22-year-old infielder will get the majority of his starts at third base for the Reds moving forward after emerging as one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape last year before batting .316/.366/.456 with three homers and six steals over 35 contests in the majors. He struggled in a quick 12-game ramp up earlier this month with Triple-A Louisville, batting .151 (8-for-53) with just one extra-base hit, but some rust is to be expected on the heels of such a lengthy absence. It might take him a few weeks to get going, but he’s absolutely worthy of a speculative roster spot in all leagues based solely on his immense talent. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:53 pm

  • Reinstated from suspension
The Reds activated Marte from the suspended list Thursday.

Advice: Marte has completed his 80-game PED suspension and the Reds will return him to their active roster on the first day he's eligible. The 22-year-old struggled mightily while on his rehab assignment, slashing just .151/.151/.170 with no home runs and a 15:0 K:BB over 53 plate appearances. Fantasy managers might be wise to keep Marte out of their lineups for now while he knocks some rust off, but the infielder should be rostered virtually everywhere. He should operate as the Reds' primary third baseman. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:15 pm

  • Homers in first big-league at-bat
Noel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Noel enjoyed a storybook first big-league plate appearance, blasting a solo shot 413 feet to center field. The 22-year-old was promoted from Triple-A earlier in the day after blazing to a .295/.359/.578 slash line with 18 homers and 59 RBI over 65 games with Columbus. Noel's power is unquestioned -- he went deep 27 times at Triple-A last season -- though he has had some strikeout issues during his time in the minors. There isn't an obvious path to everyday at-bats with the big club, but if Joel is productive, he could work his way into fairly regular playing time by moving between first base, the corner-outfield spots and designated hitter. • Jhonkensy Noel homers in first MLB at-bat
Jhonkensy Noel went 1-for-4 with his first major league home run on Wednesday against the Orioles.

Advice: What a moment for Noel to send one over the fence in his first at-bat as a big leaguer. He put up 18 homers, a .578 slugging percentage, and had three batted balls over 115 MPH in 65 games at AAA this year, so power is his calling card. Josh Naylor is the Guardians’ every day first baseman, but David Fry has faltered in June and played a good bit of corner outfield and catcher along with being the Guardians’ usual DH. Noel may have an opportunity to prove himself over the next few weeks. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:10 pm

  • Manny Machado has two hits in victory over Nats
Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored as the Padres bested the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon in San Diego.

Advice: Machado led off the eighth inning with a single off of Tanner Rainey, then rode home on Kyle Higashioka’s grand slam. With his two-hit attack on Wednesday, the 31-year-old superstar third baseman is now hitting .264/.316/.390 on the season to go along with eight homers, 40 RBI and five stolen bases. • Managing neck issue
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Ortiz was removed from Wednesday's win over the Rangers due to a neck injury, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The injury apparently surfaced during last week's series against the Angels, and it prompted his removal from Wednesday's contest in the sixth inning after going 0-for-2. Ortiz's ability to play through the issue indicates it isn't a serious concern, so he could be back in action Friday versus the Cubs following Thursday's team off day. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:29 pm

  • Joey Ortiz leaves game due to neck issue Wednesday
Joey Ortiz was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Rangers due to a neck issue.

Advice: Brewers’ skipper Pat Murphy said after the game that Ortiz has been battling the neck injury for a while now, and that it didn’t occur when he ran into the tarp while chasing a foul ball on Wednesday. It’s unclear if he’s going to ultimately require a trip to the injured list, or if the Brewers will continue to take things on a day-to-day basis. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:15 pm
