    Advice: The exact nature of the operation isn't known yet, but surgery was recommended after Rom met with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on Tuesday.     Iglesias gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.

    Advice: It wasn't the sharpest appearance for Iglesias, who put two batters on base before getting an out, but he settled down and took care of the heart of Seattle's order without too much more trouble. The right-hander has converted eight of his nine save chances to begin the year while posting a typically stingy 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but there are signs Iglesias isn't quite in peak form -- his 94.5 mph average fastball is his lowest velocity since 2016, and his 18.0 percent strikeout rate is a massive drop from the 29.4 percent mark he delivered last season.     Sale (4-1) picked up the win Wednesday in a 5-2 victory over the Mariners, allowing one run on six hits over five innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

    Advice: The veteran lefty wasn't exactly efficient, needing 100 pitches to record 15 outs, but Sale generated an eye-popping 21 swinging strikes in another dominant performance. The nine Ks were a season high, and Sale has given up three runs or less in five of his six starts to begin his Atlanta tenure. He'll take a 3.44 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 42:7 K:BB through 36.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up for a home start next week against the former club, the Red Sox.     Toro went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: Getting the start at second base and batting fifth, Toro launched a second-inning Quinn Priester sinker up in the zone off the top of the wall in center field. Toro has hit safely in six straight games, and he's making a case to be an everyday player for Oakland -- through 99 plate appearances, he's slashing .264/.323/.440 with three homers, 11 RBI and 11 runs. He's played at least three games at first base, second base and third base so far in 2024 in addition to spotting in at DH, and while Ryan Noda's demotion to Triple-A after Wednesday's game likely has more to do with J.D.     Yamamoto (3-1) earned the win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing five hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: Yamamoto allowed the leadoff man to reach in back-to-back innings to open the contest, but still managed to keep Arizona's lineup at bay over six frames. The right-hander has now hurled 12 scoreless innings over his last two starts and has won each of his last three decisions after imploding in his MLB debut.     Nevin went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: The 26-year-old took Quinn Priester deep in the third inning, extending an impressive stretch that has seen Nevin record four straight multi-hit performances as part of a nine-game hitting streak. He's left the yard four times during his heater, accounting for all of his homers on the season, and since joining Oakland at the beginning of April he's slashed .325/.375/.500 in 88 plate appearances with 10 runs and 10 RBI. Nevin posted consistently solid numbers in the minors but never got much of an opportunity in Baltimore, and he stumbled with Detroit in 2023.     Advice: Smith is the latest through the revolving door that is first base on Boston's roster. He was signed earlier in the day and made his debut for the Red Sox. With Triston Casas (ribs) on the 60-day injured list, the Red Sox have added two new first baseman over the last week -- Smith and Garrett Cooper (wrist).
