• Headed back to minors
The Padres optioned Mazur to Triple-A El Paso following Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: The move corresponds with southpaw Tom Cosgrove being recalled from Triple-A El Paso. Mazur was called up to the Padres' rotation June 4 due to Yu Darvish (groin) landing on the injured list. Over his four major-league starts, Mazur has an 0-2 record with a 7.27 ERA and 1.96 WHIP, and he has failed to make it through five innings over his last three starts. The 23-year-old right-hander hasn't had it much better in Triple-A this year, posting a 7.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 19 innings. Rotowire.com 1 minute ago

  • Reinstatement coming
Rodgers (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports Friday.

Advice: Rodgers suffered a mild left hamstring strain June 7 and after couple weeks of recovery and a brief minor-league rehab assignment, he'll rejoin the Rockies active roster. Adael Amador (oblique) will hit the IL in a corresponding move. Prior to the injury, Rodgers owned a .699 OPS across 230 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago
  • Recalled by San Diego
The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Advice: The move corresponds with right-hander Adam Mazur being optioned to Triple-A El Paso. Cosgrove was optioned to Triple-A on April 30 after appearing in 15 games in the majors, registering a 10.50 ERA and 1.83 WHIP across 12 innings. He has an 8.79 ERA in the minors, though he hasn't given up a run or hit over his last seven outings, striking out seven batters over that span. Cosgrove will provide the Padres a southpaw option out of the bullpen. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago
  • Kerry Carpenter (back) to start baseball activity
Kerry Carpenter (back) told reporters on Friday that he has been cleared to start baseball activities on Monday.

Advice: The 26-year-old slugger will need at least a couple of weeks to ramp back up and will require a minor league rehab assignment before he’s ready to return to the Tigers’ lineup. If all goes well and he’s able to avoid any setbacks, we could see him back in the Olde English D right after the All-Star break. Before landing on the injured list, Carpenter was hitting .283/.342/.572 with eight homers and 29 RBI in his first 50 ballgames. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • J.D. Martinez homers, drives in four in rout
J.D. Martinez delivered a three-run homer and an RBI single Friday as the Mets torched the Cubs 11-1.

Advice: Martinez is 11-for-27 with four homers, three doubles and 12 RBI in his last eight games. His current .870 OPS is practically a match for his career mark of .873, but it’s especially impressive given the current conditions, especially for a Mets hitter. Unfortunately, he’s probably going to lose his streak of five straight All-Star appearances, unless maybe the NL carries a third DH alongside Shohei Ohtani and Marcell Ozuna. • Jose Quintana strikes out eight in beating Cubs
Jose Quintana held the Cubs to an unearned run over 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in Friday’s win.

Advice: After the Mets scored three runs in the top of the first, the Cubs, aided by a Mark Vientos error, appeared poised to come right back, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Alas, that’s not the way it worked out. Christopher Morel grounded into a run-scoring double play, and it proved to be the only run the Cubs would get all day. It’s the first time this season Quintana has gone without allowing an earned run. It’s also the second straight start in which he’s topped his season high for strikeouts; he hadn’t had more than four before fanning six Padres last week. Back-to-back victories have moved him to 3-5 with a 4.58 ERA. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Shota Imanaga gives up 10 runs, 11 hits to Mets
Shota Imanaga was tagged for 10 runs and 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings by the Mets on Friday.

Advice: With his velocity down 1-2 mph on all of his pitches, Imanaga was crushed today, giving up three homers and 11 hard-hit balls in all. He was effective in his previous two starts, but this makes three out of five outings in which he’s struggled; he’s allowed 21 earned runs in those five outings after giving up a total of five in his first nine starts. The velocity is something to watch; he’s been really effective throwing at 92 mph at the top of the zone, but 90 mph might not get it done there. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Brandon Nimmo hits third homer in four games
Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and three runs scored versus the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: This has turned into quite a hot streak. Nimmo has three homers in four games, and he’s 14-for-29 in his last seven games, raising his season OPS from .708 to .783. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Jose Iglesias goes 4-for-5, drives in three
Starting at second base over Jeff McNeil against a lefty, Jose Iglesias went 4-for-5 and knocked in three runs Friday against the Cubs.

Advice: Iglesias is now 14-for-32 since being called up, giving him a nice .438 average. He has 40% as many runs batted in as McNeil (six to 15) in 14% as many at-bats (32 to 233). It wouldn’t hurt to give him some playing time against righties; McNeil actually has an even lower OPS against them than he does lefties (.583 to .609). Rotoworld 9 minutes ago
