      Tarik Skubal pitched three-hit ball and struck out eight over seven innings Wednesday as the Tigers shut out the Pirates 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

      Advice: Skubal followed up his worst start of the year against the Royals with one of his best today. He’s now 7-1 with a 2.01 ERA and an 80/11 K/BB ratio over 67 innings.       Skubal won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Pirates since the game has been postponed due to inclement weather, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

      Gasser did not factor into the decision Monday against the Cubs, allowing three hits and no walks over six shutout innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Gasser dominated the Cubs, pounding them with a sound five-pitch mix to collect his second career quality start. The 24-year-old rookie has impressed in 23 innings so far, producing a 1.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB. Things have been excellent under the hood too, as he owns a 2.52 FIP and 47.3 percent groundball rate. Gasser is tentatively set to make his next scheduled start against the White Sox at home.       Robert Gasser threw six shutout innings and got the no-decision in the Brewers’ 5-1 victory over the Cubs on Monday.



      Advice: Gasser left the game in the seventh inning with two on and nobody. Reliever Bryan Hudson escaped the jam without any runs being charged to Gasser, who allowed only three hits and struck out seven. He lowered his ERA to 1.96 in four starts. Gasser has a SO:BB of 13:1 and 47 percent ground ball percentage. He’s certainly a promising rookie, though he’s probably due to give up some runs eventually as his xFIP is 3.99. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the White Sox at home this weekend.

      Advice: Ryan dominated the Royals, generating an impressive 15 whiffs en route to his nine punchouts. With Monday's effort, the 27-year-old righty collected his eighth quality start of the season. Overall, Ryan sports a 2.96 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 73:9 K:BB in 67 innings.     • Joe Ryan strikes out nine in win over Royals
      Joe Ryan recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Royals.

      Advice: Ryan authored yet another stellar performance on Monday afternoon at Target Field, carrying a shutout into the sixth inning before Kansas City finally broke through courtesy of a two-out RBI single from Vinnie Pasquantino. It was his highest single-start strikeout total since a 12-punchout performance back on April 13 against the Tigers as he induced 15 swinging strikes, including 11 on his fastball, and finished with a robust 33 percent CSW. He’s rapidly cementing his status as an upper-echelon fantasy contributor, having allowed three earned runs or fewer in 10 of his 11 starts at the outset of the season.     • Hurt by home runs
      Assad (4-1) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings.

      Advice: Assad's final run line could've looked a lot better had it not been for two mistakes thrown to Paul Goldschmidt. He served up nearly identical two-run homers to Goldschmidt in the third and fifth innings to give the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish. Assad has now allowed multiple home runs in back-to-back starts while also walking eight batters over that span. The one positive to take away from Sunday's outing is he was able to tie his career-high with eight strikeouts and has 19 strikeouts over his last 15.2 innings.       Javier Assad wasn’t at his best in Sunday night’s loss to the Cardinals, giving up four runs on five hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: The right-hander piled up eight strikeouts on the night while issuing three free passes. All of the damage done against him came on two bad pitches, that Paul Goldschmidt pulverized for a pair of two-run homers — one in the third inning and another in the fifth. Assad got seven swings and misses on 81 pitches on the night, registering a strong CSW of 35 percent.
