    • Cease allows six earned, two homers vs. Rangers
      Dylan Cease allowed eight hits and six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers.

      Advice: Cease had an up-and-down first inning. While he recorded all three of his outs via the strikeout, he allowed two hits, with the second coming on a two-run homer by Nathaniel Lowe to give the Rangers an early lead. It would only get worse from there, as Cease would give up another two-run bomb to Lowe in the third inning and was pulled in the fourth inning shortly after allowing a sixth run off a Marcus Semien single. It’s been a rough stretch for Cease, who has allowed 17 earned runs over his last 19 innings while striking out 29 batters and walking nine.     • Birdsong notches first career win vs. Braves
      Hayden Birdsong allowed two earned runs over five innings while striking out five to pick up his first win on Tuesday over the Braves.

      Advice: Birdsong pitched a scoreless first inning but gave up back-to-back solo shots to Austin Riley and Sean Murphy in the second. Those would be the only runs allowed by Birdsong, who has now allowed five earned runs over his first 9 2/3 innings pitched on the season. The 22-year-old righty hasn’t blown away the competition in his first two career starts, but he’s given his team a chance to win in both outings despite a 1.55 WHIP.     • Luis Gil’s struggles continue in loss
      Luis Gil allowed four runs on two hits in four innings in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

      Advice: The command simply wasn’t there for Gil on Tuesday, walking three and striking out three while throwing 83 pitches in just four innings. There has been some concern that Gil is hitting a bit of a wall after allowing 16 earned runs in his last 9 2/3 innings. The Yankees maintain confidence in the 26-year-old, but he left a lot of sliders up in the zone today and struggled to command his changeup, so perhaps he is getting a little tired in his breakout season.     • Reynaldo López goes just 4 2/3 innings vs. Giants
      Reynaldo López allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings while striking out six in Tuesday’s loss to the Giants.

      Advice: López was pulled after 101 pitches, as the veteran righty allowed base runners on the night, with four coming via the walk. López gave up a solo homer to Jorge Soler in the fifth inning and later saw LaMonte Wade Jr. take him deep to tie the game at 2-2 before being pulled after retiring the next batter. López has allowed two earned runs or less in his last six outings but has walked four batters in back-to-back games.     • Skubal strikes out seven in loss to Twins
      Tarik Skubal allowed three earned runs and four hits over six innings while striking out seven in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

      Advice: Skubal pitched two scoreless innings to start the game but ran into trouble in the third inning. After striking out Willi Castro to start the frame, Skubal allowed back-to-back singles to Kyle Farmer and Manuel Margot before Royce Lewis eventually doubled to bring both runners around to score. He would later give up a solo homer to Margot in the fifth inning but returned to pitch a scoreless sixth before being pulled for Will Vest. Skubal has allowed seven earned runs over his last 17 innings pitched while posting a 21:4 K:BB ratio.       Simeon Woods Richardson allowed four hits and three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out four in Tuesday’s win over the Tigers.



      Advice: Woods Richardson pitched four scoreless frames to kick off the game before giving up home runs to Justyn-Henry Malloy and Ryan Kreidler in the fifth inning. He would return to pitch part of the sixth inning but was pulled in favor of Jorge Alcala after walking Colt Keith. Woods Richardson has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last three outings and will look to pick up his fourth win of the season on Sunday against the Astros.     • Michal Kopech takes loss against Guardians
      Michael Kopech allowed one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning in a loss to the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: Kopech entered the ninth in a tie game and allowed a lead-off single to Andres Gimenez. Gimenez would later move over on a groundout and then a wild pitch allowed him to advance to third where he was driven in by a sac fly off the bat of Bo Naylor. Kopech had allowed just one run in his last six innings and wasn’t particularly bad here, but the wild pitch highlights some of the inconsistency that he brings at the end of games.       Baz was scratched from his start with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

      Advice: Baz was removed from his outing in order to be available as a depth option for the Rays in case the team needs to play a doubleheader Wednesday or Thursday against the Royals, as inclement weather is expected in Kansas City.       Shane Baz was scratched from Tuesday’s start for Triple-A Durham.

      Advice: Baz was scratched to keep him available in case the Rays need to call up a starter for a potential Wednesday doubleheader against the Royals. With rain in the forecast in Kansas City on Tuesday night, Tampa Bay didn’t want to take any chances and not have Baz available, if needed. There’s still a bunch of hurdles to clear, but it’s possible the 25-year-old top pitching prospect could make his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery later this week.
