      Cubs manager Craig Counsell now says X-rays last night on Nico Hoerner’s hand came back “somewhat inconclusive,” and the second baseman is not playing in Friday’s game.

      Advice: It was originally reported that the X-rays came back negative after Hoerner was hit on the right hand by a pitch. Hoerner, though, had some trouble gripping the bat and swinging today.       Advice: Hoerner was struck by a pitch in the fourth inning Thursday but stayed in and finished that game. He underwent a precautionary X-ray afterward, which evidently came back clean.       X-rays came back negative on Nico Hoerner’s hand after being hit by a pitch during Thursday’s game against the Reds.

      Advice: Hoerner remained in the contest and appears to have avoided serious injury after being plunked on the hand by a 96.5 mph fastball from Reds starter Hunter Greene during the early stages of the game.       Spencer Steer walloped a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning on Wednesday in the Reds’ comeback win over the Rockies.

      Advice: After a rough May in which he posted a .176 average and .629 OPS, Steer has gotten off to a strong start to June. He's delivered multiple hits in all three games on the month, going 8-for-14.       Semien went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers on Monday.

      Advice: Semien opened the scoring with a leadoff homer off Tarik Skubal and added a single and a walk in the third and fifth innings. The homer was Semien's first since May 17, and he has now reached base in 10 of his 14 June plate appearances.
