    • Activated for Sunday's start
The Guardians reinstated Carrasco (neck) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Nationals.

Advice: Cleveland made room for Carrasco on the 26-man active roster by placing right-handed reliever Eli Morgan (elbow) on the 15-day injured list. Carrasco ended up spending the minimum amount of time on the shelf due to acute neck spasms, which he experienced coming out of his most recent start May 15. Though he's not expected to face any major workload restrictions as he steps back into the Cleveland rotation Sunday, Carrasco is tough to trust for fantasy purposes after he delivered a 5.16 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over his first nine starts of the season. • Heads to 60-day IL
The Red Sox transferred Whitlock (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.

Advice: The transaction is merely a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Worcester ahead of Sunday's game against the Tigers. Whitlock is already slated to miss the remainder of the season after he underwent an internal bracing procedure on his right elbow earlier in the week. He's expected to make a full recovery in 10-to-12 months, making it likely that he opens the 2025 season on the shelf. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

    • DFA'd by Oakland
The Athletics designated Brooks for assignment on Sunday.

Advice: Brooks joined Oakland's rotation in mid-May but won't retain his place on the 40-man roster after he made four starts and posted a 5.82 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB over 21.2 innings. Luis Medina (knee) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move and will start Sunday in Atlanta. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
    • Called up for Sunday's start
Priester was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old will join Pittsburgh's rotation Sunday as the replacement for Martin Perez (groin), who landed on the injured list Tuesday. Priester has been decent in five starts for the Pirates this season with a 4.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB across 27 innings, and another solid outing Sunday could earn him a longer look in the rotation. • Reinstated for Sunday's start
Medina (knee) was activated from the 60-day injured list and will start Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: The 25-year-old has been sidelined for the first two months of 2024 due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee, but he's ready to make his season debut Sunday in Atlanta. Medina built up to 72 pitches in his final rehab start and will likely face some workload limitations in his first outing or two in the big leagues. The right-hander posted a 5.42 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 106:57 K:BB across 109.2 innings as a rookie last year. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

    • Notches eighth hold
Peralta earned a hold against the Royals on Saturday by retiring the only batter he faced.

Advice: Peralta was brought in with two outs and two on in the bottom of the eighth inning and got Freddy Fermin to line out to end the threat. He was credited with his eighth hold of the campaign, which leads San Diego. Peralta was touched up for four runs over one-third of an inning against Colorado on April 28 but still has a solid 2.66 ERA ERA this season. Over his past 13 outings, the lefty reliever has yielded just one run over 11.1 frames while posting a 10:4 K:BB. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago
    • Out with shoulder inflammation
Sanchez was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander allowed two runs and threw just 53 pitches over four-plus innings Saturday against the Rangers, and the injury may have played a role in the brevity of that outing. The severity of the injury is unclear, but Sanchez will be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. The Marlins have three scheduled days off in the next nine days, so they won't immediately need to replace Sanchez in the rotation. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago

    • Set to rejoin rotation Sunday
Carrasco (neck) is expected to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Nationals at Progressive Field, SI.com reports.

Advice: He'll be taking back his rotation spot from right-hander Xzavion Curry, who was optioned to Triple-A Columbus earlier in the weekend. After being deactivated May 21 due to acute neck spasms, Carrasco will end up spending the minimum amount of time on the IL, and even though he didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment while he was on the shelf, he's not expected to face any major restrictions with his pitch count Sunday. That being said, the 37-year-old right-hander hasn't been a roster-worthy fantasy option in the majority of leagues this season, going 2-4 with a 5.16 ERA, 4.16 WHIP and 34:18 K:BB in 45.1 innings over his nine starts. • Earns second win
Leiter (2-3) tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout to earn the win Saturday against the Reds.

Advice: Leiter pitched a clean top of the eighth inning in a 5-5 tie, then moved into position for the win when the Cubs scored twice in the bottom half of the frame. The righty surpassed last season's win total in the process, and he's been about equally effective in the ERA department, as he's sitting with a 3.52 mark so far this year compared to 3.50 in 2023. Leiter is missing more bats, however, as his K/9 is up to 12.1 from 10.8 last season. His FIP is also down to 2.05 from 3.76 last season, suggesting his current ERA may trend downward.
