    • Can't overcome rough first inning
Miller (3-4) took the loss Friday against the Orioles, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out one.

Advice: All of the damage against Miller came in the first inning, when the Orioles put up five runs before the right-hander could record an out. Miller would settle in and blank Baltimore over his final 4.1 frames, allowing just two more hits, though the Mariners couldn't climb out of the early hole in an eventual 9-2 defeat. The 24-year-old Miller has been solid this year overall, holding opponents to two runs or fewer in six of his nine starts. He sports a 3.08 ERA with a 0.99 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB across 52.2 innings this season. Miller is currently lined up for a tough road matchup with the Yankees in his next outing. • Bryce Miller hit hard in loss to Orioles on Friday
Bryce Miller was hit hard in Friday night’s loss to the Orioles, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits across 5 1/3 innings.

Advice: The 25-year-old hurler walked one and recorded only one strikeout on the night. The Orioles jumped on him early and often in this one, with Gunnar Henderson blasting a leadoff home run to start a five-run uprising in the opening inning. Miller settled in nicely afterwards, but the damage had already been done. He got just six swings and misses on 86 pitches in the contest, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 22 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back as he totes an impressive 3.08 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 52/16 K/BB ratio (52 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Yankees in New York. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
    • Starting to heat up in Vegas
Noda is 5-for-13 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, three walks and four runs over his last four games with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The brief but impressive stretch is in stark contrast to the first eight games following Noda's demotion, when he posted an .083 average across 37 plate appearances. The 28-year-old, who limped to a .128 average and .440 OPS during his 30 games in the majors to open the season, could soon earn himself a call back to the big-league club if he can keep his hot bat going for an extended period. • Nails down ninth save
Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Bednar entered the game to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-handed reliever has converted each of his last eight save attempts and carries a 2.57 ERA in May to go along with a 6:2 K:BB. Bednar has also recorded at least one strikeout in three straight appearances and in six of seven appearances overall this month. Rotowire.com Today, 3:48 am

    • Gelof knocks in run Thursday
Zack Gelof went 1-for-3 with an RBI against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: It was a quiet night for the Oakland offense. Gelof recorded his first hit and RBI in his third game since returning from the IL. He needs to regain his power stroke if he’s even going to approach the impact fantasy managers expected from him before the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:25 pm

    • Takes extra-innings loss
Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame with the score tied 4-4 and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to J.D. Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to give the Mets an insurance run. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:43 pm
    • Bednar with another clean inning for save
David Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Bednar’s ninth of the season. He pitched a clean ninth inning and recorded a strikeout to preserve a one-run lead. After a shaky start to the season, Bednar now has back-to-back clean innings in save opportunities. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm

    • Used in high-leverage spot
Fairbanks struck out two and didn't allow a baserunner in a scoreless eighth inning to pick up a hold in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the game in the eighth inning to face the heart of the Red Sox order and needed only seven pitches to get through the frame. While effective, his usage was concerning given that he had pitched nearly exclusively as a traditional closer early in the season. It's unclear whether manager Kevin Cash might continue to mix and match the back end of his bullpen, but Fairbanks could lose save opportunities moving forward. • Kicks off rehab assignment
Jones (back) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an RBI.

Advice: Jones received three plate appearances and played five innings in left field in his first game action since he landed on the 10-day injured list in late April with a low-back strain. He shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated since he hasn't been sidelined for an extended period, but the Rockies haven't provided a firm target date for his return to the big club. The 26-year-old has slashed a disappointing .170/.243/.277 with one home run and two stolen bases over 103 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:16 am
