• Marlins recall SS Edwards from Triple-A
Marlins recalled SS Xavier Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: The Marlins need infield depth with Tim Anderson on the bereavement list and Otto Lopez on the paternity list. Edwards was hitting .365 with no home runs in 13 games with Triple-A. He’s batting first for the Marlins in Friday night’s game against the Guardians. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:50 pm
  • Marlins place Otto Lopez on paternity list
Marlins placed SS Otto Lopez on the paternity list.

Advice: Lopez will be away from the team for three days on paternity leave as he takes care of things much more important than baseball. Lopez is hitting .295 with three home runs in 95 at-bats with Miami this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:44 pm

  • Recalled, batting leadoff Friday
The Marlins recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Advice: Miami is in need of infield help with both Tim Anderson (bereavement) and Otto Lopez (paternity) away from the club for a few days. Edwards is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff in Friday's game against the Guardians. The 24-year-old got a late start to the season due to a bacterial infection in his left foot, but he's slashed .365/.411/.481 with three stolen bases in 17 games with Jacksonville. He's not guaranteed regular playing time, but if he gets it Edwards could merit some attention in deeper fantasy leagues due to his stolen base potential. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:45 am
  • Rays activate INF Walls from 60-day IL
Rays activated INF Taylor Walls from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Tampa Bay designated Harold Ramirez for assignment to make room for Walls, who has been on the injured list all season as he recovered from offseason hip surgery. Walls figures to come off the bench for the Rays and see most of his playing time against left-handed pitching. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:06 am

  • Activated from 60-day IL
The Rays activated Walls (hip) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Walls has been out all season following offseason hip surgery and had his recovery delayed due to inflammation in the hip. However, he recently got back up to speed during a five-game rehab stint with Triple-A Durham, going 8-for-21 at the plate. Walls could take some playing time away from Jose Caballero at shortstop while working in a utility role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:00 am

  • Stays hot in win
Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 4-3 win over San Diego.

Advice: Marte delivered the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when his two-out single plated Corbin Carroll. Marte has rebounded nicely from an 0-for-22 skid in late May, going 11-for-28 (.393) with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and five runs scored over the last eight contests. The Diamondbacks' offense could get a boost if the struggling Carroll can build off his three-hit performance Thursday, which would give Marte more run-producing opportunities. • Pops three-run homer
Valdez went 1-for-6 with a three-run home run and a walk in Thursday's 14-2 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Valdez turned the game into a romp with his fourth-inning blast. He's hit safely in his last five contests, going 7-for-20 (.350) with three homers and eight RBI in that span. The 25-year-old is slashing just .189/.218/.378 through 120 plate appearances, but he's added five homers, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored across 35 contests. Valdez remains in a starting role at second base while Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) is on the injured list. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:07 pm
  • X-rays negative on Nico Hoerner’s hand after HBP
X-rays came back negative on Nico Hoerner’s hand after being hit by a pitch during Thursday’s game against the Reds.

Advice: Hoerner remained in the contest and appears to have avoided serious injury after being plunked on the hand by a 96.5 mph fastball from Reds starter Hunter Greene during the early stages of the game. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require a trip to the injured list at this point. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:44 pm
