    • Rejoining active roster
Wicks (forearm) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Wicks will be back with the Cubs for the first time since late April after sustaining a forearm strain in his throwing arm. He's completed 3.1 innings in each of his last two rehab starts and was stretched out to 65 pitches in his latest appearance. While Wicks previously served as the Cubs' fifth starter, rookie Ben Brown has impressed as part of the rotation and could push Wicks to the bullpen. Before going down, Wicks had a 4.70 ERA across 23.0 innings. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago
    • Loses roster spot
The Cubs optioned Hodge to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Ryan Herrera of CHGO Sports reports.

Advice: Hodge flashed both his wipeout stuff (seven strikeouts) and control problems (four walks) during his first five major-league relief innings. He'll get another chance eventually but for now will attempt more fine-tuning at Iowa. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

    • Juan Soto day-to-day with forearm inflammation
Yankees manager Aaron Boone called Juan Soto day-to-day with forearm inflammation.

Advice: Tests didn’t reveal any ligament damage, so that’s good. Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time early tests failed to pick up on something, but optimism is warranted for now. Soto is not in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Dodgers, but he hasn’t been ruled out for the weekend. Rotoworld 6 minutes ago

    • Slated for bullpen next homestand
DeGrom (elbow) is slated to throw his first bullpen session since last June's Tommy John surgery during the Rangers' June 17-23 homestand, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: DeGrom resumed flat-ground throwing Wednesday following a scheduled de-loading period as he continues his rehab from a second Tommy John operation. The right-hander has hit all the necessary markers in his recovery so far but has many more to go. If everything goes according to plan, deGrom looks to be tracking toward a season debut sometime in August, although that's very tentative at this point. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

    • Not starting Friday
Seager (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Advice: The hamstring injury that caused Seager's departure from Wednesday's matchup with the Tigers is considered minor, but he'll still be out of the starting nine for at least one game. The 30-year-old is still on Texas' lineup card, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, and he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list. Josh Smith will shift to shortstop while Ezequiel Duran receives a start at the hot corner. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Throwing long toss
Maeda was seen throwing long toss Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Maeda was removed from his start Wednesday after just two pitches with right abdominal discomfort. McCosky also reports that Maeda reported mild soreness in hs abdomen during the session but the pain wasn't enough to prevent him from progressing toward his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday. • Out versus southpaw
Benson is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cubs.

Advice: The left-handed hitting Benson will take a seat as the Cubs send southpaw Justin Steele to the hill. Blake Dunn, TJ Friedl and Stuart Fairchild will handle outfield duties for the Reds on Friday. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

    • Shouldn't miss next start
Flaherty (back) said he expects "all systems go" for his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against Washington, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Flaherty was pulled after 60 pitches in his last start due to back tightness but it seems as though he's avoided any significant injury and is all but confirmed to face Washington. Considering back injuries can be touch-and-go, there remains a small risk that the issue will flare up again. Regardless, Flaherty is feeling good and is optimistic for Tuesday's start, where he'll look to extend his scoreless innings streak which stands at 11.2 innings. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • White Sox designate Woodford for assignment
White Sox designated RHP Jake Woodford for assignment.

Advice: Woodford was hit hard on Thursday as he allowed seven runs in four innings against the Red Sox. That’ll be his last appearance in Chicago for awhile. The club has seven days to trade Woodford or place him on waivers. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
