    • Resuming activities Monday
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomcyzk said Friday that Hayes (back) will resume baseball activities Monday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The plan is for Hayes to play catch and field grounders Monday before progressing to swinging a bat Tuesday. Hayes landed on the injured list last weekend with a back injury which had been nagging at him for a while, but it sounds like he's feeling better after a little rest. He could have a shot to make it back before the end of the month if all goes well. Rotowire.com Today, 10:33 am

    • To IL with back issue
Hayes was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a back issue, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Hayes hasn't played since Tuesday amid a 3-for-30 slump, and perhaps the back issue is part of the reason he's only hit one home run in 35 games. Alika Williams is getting the call from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:03 am

    • Ke’Bryan Hayes to IL with back inflammation
Pirates placed 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes on the 10-day injured list with back inflammation.

Advice: So much for it being a non-issue. Clearly, the Pirates don’t want to take any chances here after Hayes missed a couple contests earlier this week with a lingering back issue. The 27-year-old will likely wind up missing at least a couple weeks to ensure that it doesn’t become a recurring issue. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:35 am

    • Ke’Bryan Hayes dealing with minor back issue
Ke’Bryan Hayes is day-to-day with a minor back issue.

Advice: Hayes has been held out of Pittsburgh’s lineup for two consecutive contests due to a lingering back issue, but told reporters on Friday that he doesn’t expect it to be a problem moving forward. It certainly sounds like he’ll be at the hot corner when top prospect Paul Skenes takes the ball on Saturday evening for his highly-anticipated debut. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:53 am

    • On bench Friday
Hayes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Hayes is mired in a 2-for-26 slump and will sit Friday for the second consecutive contest. Jared Triolo will shift to third base while Nick Gonzales, freshly promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis, starts at the keystone. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:35 pm

    • Sitting Wednesday amid slump
Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Hayes will get a breather for the series finale after he had started in each of the Pirates' last 11 games. The 27-year-old went 8-for-42 over that stretch, bringing his batting average down to a career-worst .240 for the season. Jared Triolo will fill in for Hayes at the hot corner Wednesday.
