    • Kris Bubic (elbow) gets rehab assignment extended
Kris Bubic has had his rehab assignment extended until June 15 as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Advice: That’s time for him to make two more starts. Bubic has thus far made seven starts in the minors, the last two of which have seen him total 7 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Omaha. He does have an option year left, so the Royals could leave him in Triple-A when the rehab assignment expires. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago

    • Sent back to Reno
The Diamondbacks optioned Jacques to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Advice: One day after coming up from the minors, Jacques will now return to Triple-A following the arrival of Thyago Vieira, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Thursday. Jacques has allowed seven earned runs in just 6.1 innings since joining the Diamondbacks organization in April, and a return to Arizona isn't likely, barring a significant turnaround. • Clayton Kershaw touches 90 mph in sim game
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) touched 90 mph on the gun during a two-inning simulated game in California on Friday.

Advice: The Dodgers have yet to schedule Kershaw’s first rehab start, but it might not be far off. First, he’ll throw another sim game next week. Kershaw is coming back from November surgery to repair his shoulder capsule and ligaments. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

    • Nico Hoerner out of lineup due to hand injury
Cubs manager Craig Counsell now says X-rays last night on Nico Hoerner’s hand came back “somewhat inconclusive,” and the second baseman is not playing in Friday’s game.

Advice: It was originally reported that the X-rays came back negative after Hoerner was hit on the right hand by a pitch. Hoerner, though, had some trouble gripping the bat and swinging today. Hopefully, this is still just a day-to-day thing. There is the potential for some bad news, though. David Bote is starting at second base tonight. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

    • Bullpen on tap
Hall (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The 25-year-old visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles for a second opinion on his sprained left knee Friday and was recommended to receive a PRP injection, but the left-hander will instead follow the initial medical opinion and get back to throwing. Hall made two one-inning rehab appearances in the minors in late May before he tweaked his knee, and he'll likely require at least a few bullpen sessions before being cleared for game action again. • Sitting again Friday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

Advice: The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh for the series opener. • Receiving third opinion
The second opinion Gasser received on his left elbow Friday conflicted with the first evaluation, so he's scheduled to visit a third doctor, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: According to Hogg, Dr. Neal ElAttrache suggested surgery after examining Gasser's elbow Friday, which was in contrast to the initial evaluation from earlier this week. There's apparently no new structural damage with the flexor strain, but the differing treatment recommendation will result in the 25-year-old receiving a third medical opinion. Gasser is without a timeline for his return but could be facing an extended absence. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

    • Surgery recommended for Robert Gasser’s elbow
Robert Gasser will get a third opinion on his elbow after Dr. Neal ElAttrache suggester he undergo surgery.

Advice: Gasser definitely has some damage in his elbow, but it sounds like the first opinion suggested rest and rehab. The highly respected ElAttrache saw things differently. There’s still a scenario in which Gasser comes back and contributes this season, but those who picked him up in mixed leagues can move on. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

    • Getting breather versus LHP
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The left-handed bat of Carpenter will be forced out of the lineup Friday as southpaw Austin Gomber prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. Jose Fermin will instead serve as St. Louis' designated hitter while batting seventh. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
