      Advice: Neto provided what turned out to be the winning margin with his two-run shot in the fourth inning. The long ball was his 10th of the season through 260 plate appearances, one more than he hit across 329 plate appearances as a rookie last year.       Zach Neto hit a two-run homer Monday to lead the Angels to a 5-3 win over the Brewers.

      Advice: Angels manager Ron Washington has utterly refused to hit Neto in the top half of the order, but the 23-year-old has been one of the team’s best players in batting .249/.297/.440 with 10 homers in 260 plate appearances. He’s not yet a finished product and it’s possible he’ll struggle to reach his true potential while playing for one of MLB’s most dysfunctional franchises, but the sky really is the limit here.     • Wild but effective Monday
      Hicks allowed four hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.

      Advice: Hicks recently battled an illness but was able to take his regular turn in the rotation Monday. He threw only 48 of 87 pitches for strikes and tied a season high in issuing four free passes, but he was able to work around constant traffic on the basepaths to finish with five scoreless frames. It was the first time Hicks has held an opponent scoreless since his season debut against San Diego on March 30, though he's been quite reliable in yielding three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 15 outings.       Winn went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and a pair of runs scored in Monday's 7-6 win over the Marlins.

      Advice: Winn took A.J. Puk deep in the top of the 12th to give St. Louis a two-run lead, which was the difference in the game as Miami tallied a run in the bottom of the frame. The shortstop has settled in nicely atop the Cardinals lineup, where he's batted in his past 11 appearances and 18 times overall this season. The counting stats are lagging a tad with only four home runs, 25 runs and 26 RBI through 65 contests, but the 22-year-old's .295/.339/.429 slash line is impressive.       Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.



      Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

      Skenes (4-0) earned the win Monday against the Reds after he allowed one run in six innings. He gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven.

      Advice: Skenes has been every bit as advertised over his first seven career starts, and he once again showed off an impressive repertoire Monday to get his fourth win. The rookie right-hander has now gone at least six innings in five of his seven starts, and he's reached at least seven strikeouts six times.     • Masyn Winn slugs go-ahead homer against Marlins
      Masyn Winn clobbered a go-ahead two-run homer in the 12th inning on Monday, lifting the Cardinals to a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Marlins.

      Advice: Leading off for the sixth straight game, Winn came through with a clutch extra-inning blast off Marlins reliever A.J. Puk to put the Cardinals ahead for good in a back-and-forth affair at loanDepot park. It was his fourth long ball of the season and first time he’s left the yard since June 4.       Davis Schneider went 1-for-5 with a solo home run against the Red Sox on Monday.

    • Paul Skenes dominates again in seven-strikeout gem
      Paul Skenes struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Monday in a win over the Reds.

      Advice: Skenes got into trouble in the opening frame when he surrendered a run-scoring double to Spencer Steer, but managed to escape the frame without any additional damage, and went on to limit Cincinnati’s lineup to just five baserunners over his final five innings of work. The electrifying 22-year-old rookie induced an eye-popping 18 swinging strikes in this one, including nine on his splinker alone, and finished with a near-elite 34 percent CSW. He’s recorded at least seven strikeouts in six of his first seven starts since arriving in the majors back in mid-May. He’s the real deal. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 53/7 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a favorable matchup on Sunday against the strikeout-prone Rays. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:59 pm
