• Activated from IL
The Orioles reinstated Rodriguez (shoulder) from the injured list to start Saturday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: After landing on the injured list May 1 with right shoulder inflammation, Rodriguez will return to the Orioles' rotation without making a rehab appearance in the minors. The 24-year-old right-hander threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday, though it's unclear how many pitches he's built up to since then, making it possible he works under a pitch count while facing the Mariners. Mike Baumann was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Rays acquire Richard Lovelady from Cubs in trade
Rays acquired LHP Richard Lovelady from the Cubs for LHP Jeff Belge.

Advice: Lovelady heads to Tampa Bay in a small trade just a few days after being jettisoned from Chicago’s 40-man roster. The 28-year-old southpaw made seven relief appearances this season for the Cubs and figures to pitch in middle relief for Tampa Bay. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago
  • Rays transfer Jacob Waguespack to 60-day IL
Rays transferred RHP Jacob Waguespack to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The procedural move opens up a spot on Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired lefty Richard Lovelady. Waguespack hit the injured list earlier this month with a right shoulder strain. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago
  • Notches fifth hold
Matsui earned a hold against Atlanta on Friday, walking one batter and striking out two over two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: Matsui was called upon with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning with the trying run at the plate, and he struck out Michael Harris II to end the frame. The lefty reliever then struck out Orlando Arcia to begin the seventh before walking Adam Duvall, which got him the hook. Interestingly, usual closer Robert Suarez was deployed in a high-leverage spot in the eighth frame Friday, but Matsui -- who was expected to compete for the ninth-inning role after working mostly as a closer during his 10-year career in Japan -- wasn't available to close since he had already been used. If Suarez (who has been excellent this season) sees more work before the ninth, it's possible Matsui could get an occasional save chance, though he's struggled in May, allowing four runs on five hits while posting a 6:6 K:BB over 4.2 innings covering six appearances. • O’s activate Grayson Rodriguez to start vs. M’s
Orioles activated RHP Grayson Rodriguez from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Rodriguez will take the ball on Saturday against the Mariners at Camden Yards following a nearly three-week stint on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation. The 24-year-old burgeoning fantasy ace might have some workload limitations right out of the gate, but it’s a nice matchup for fantasy purposes against a Seattle lineup that has scored the fifth-fewest runs in baseball so far. • O’s designate Mike Baumann for assignment
Orioles designated RHP Mike Baumann for assignment.

Advice: Baumann figures to draw some interest on waivers after pitching to a respectable 3.44 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 16/9 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings (17 appearances) this season out of Baltimore’s bullpen. The 28-year-old former prospect has made 94 appearances (four starts) in the majors since 2021. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

  • Jordan Wicks (forearm) faces hitters on Friday
Jordan Wicks (forearm) faced hitters on Friday in a two-inning live batting practice session.

Advice: Wicks hit the injured list back in late April with a left forearm strain, but appears close to heading out for a couple minor league rehab starts. The 24-year-old southpaw figures to rejoin Chicago’s starting rotation later this month, but could wind up shifting to more of a swingman-type role. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Daniel Palencia (shoulder) ready for rehab assignment
Daniel Palencia (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday for Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Palencia landed on the shelf earlier this month with left shoulder stiffness and appears likely to require only a minimum stay on the injured list. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Could return early next week
Kahnle (shoulder) may be activated from the IL during the Yankees' series against Seattle that begins Monday, per MLB.com.

Advice: Kahnle kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment May 8 and has been dominant through four outings, posting a 9:0 K:BB while tossing four perfect frames. The veteran reliever is slated to make another rehab appearance Saturday, after which he'll be re-evaluated. If Kahnle is cleared at that point, he could make his season debut for the big-league Yankees as soon as Monday. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago
