• Early exit in Saturday's loss
Pallante (2-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits over 3.1 innings as the Cardinals were downed 5-1 by the Cubs. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander didn't pitch badly, blanking Chicago through three innings, but Pallante got lifted after 59 pitches (40 strikes) with two runners on base in the fourth and had to watch Chris Roycroft let them both come around to score. Pallante has been effective in three of four outings since moving into the rotation, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 17.1 innings over that stretch. He lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Giants. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

  • Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon.

Advice: The 31-year-old hurler is dealing with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps — and was given a cortisone shot and PRP injection after an MRI revealed that a bone spur was causing his issues. Shildt didn’t give any specifics regarding a specific timeline for Musgrove’s return, but if he starts throwing soon that’s at least an encouraging sign. He shouldn’t be expected back until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld 44 minutes ago

  • Riley Greene homers twice in win
Riley Greene went 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI and two runs scored in a 13-5 win over the Astros on Saturday.

Advice: Greene didn’t hit for a ton of power last year while recovering from a shoulder injury, so there was a narrative that he was more of a slap hitter, but that was never the case. The 23-year-old is now up to 14 home runs on the season to go along with 36 RBI and a .836 OPS. He looks to be in the midst of a full-on breakout and has a bright fantasy future ahead of him. • Rehab assignment starting
Polanco (hamstring) is playing in a rehab game Saturday at High-A Everett, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Polanco will remain at Everett for a few games before continuing his rehab at Triple-A Tacoma. The second baseman has been ramping up over the past week and is feeling good enough to begin playing games Saturday. Polanco is on track for a late June return after straining his right hamstring May 26. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago

  • Colt Keith has four hits, HR in win
Colt Keith went 4-for-6 with a solo home run in a win over the Astros on Saturday.

Advice: Keith is now 6-for-9 in the first two games of the series. The home run was his third of the season and accounted for his 20th RBI. While those numbers aren’t anything to write home about, Keith has some legitimate power at the minor league level. After getting hot in May, Keith was banged up in a collision with his own teammate and went cold to start June, but perhaps his bat is heating back up again. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Could resume throwing soon
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and starting a throwing program, per MLB.com.

Advice: Musgrove was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow in early June and consequently received PRP and cortisone injections. While Shildt said Friday that the veteran pitcher could resume throwing soon, he didn't give specifics on a timeline. Given that Musgrove dealt with a similar injury in May, the Padres are unlikely to rush him back, and he's probably at least a month away from a return. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

  • Chas McCormick hits HR in loss to Tigers
Chas McCormick went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: McCormick didn’t start this game, but all five Astros’ runs were driven in by players who were on the bench for the first pitch. The home run was McCormick’s first of the season but was a no-doubted, hit 428 feet at 106.5 mph. He’s battled through injuries this year and is hitting just .209 on the season, but Jake Meyers has also started to struggle, so there is a chance that McCormick could push for more playing time if he can start swinging the bat well. • Jorge Polanco (hamstring) begins rehab assignment
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at High-A Everett on Saturday.

Advice: The 30-year-old second baseman is only expected to need a couple of games to get his timing back before he’s cleared to return to the Mariners’ lineup. Expect him back early next week, which will severely impact the playing time for Ryan Bliss, who has been filling in at second base over the past few weeks. Rotoworld Today, 4:30 pm

  • Anthony Santander homers twice in victory Saturday
Anthony Santander went 2-for-2 with two homers, four RBI, and a walk to lead the Orioles to a 6-2 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

Advice: Santander drew a walk in the second inning, then led off the fourth with a solo homer off Taijuan Walker to tie the game. He later gave the Orioles some insurance runs in the eighth, taking José Ruiz deep for a two-run blast for his second homer of the day. After hitting nine home runs over the first two months, he’s already up to eight while hitting .298 in a red-hot June. The 29-year-old slugger is slashing .231/.307/.498 with 17 homers and 42 RBI across 277 plate appearances on the season. Rotoworld Today, 3:38 pm
