    Cortes (4-5) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles, allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

    Advice: The crafty lefty was at his baffling best, and the only runner Baltimore got past second base against Cortes came on an Austin Wells passed ball in the sixth inning. Cortes threw a season-high 105 pitches (64 strikes) in the outing, his first time in triple digits since April 20, while the quality start was his second straight and seventh of the campaign. He'll take a 3.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 86:18 K:BB through 93.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 7:13 am
     
  • Early exit in first loss of year
    Suarez (3-1) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and five walks over 3.2 innings as the Orioles were downed 4-2 by the Yankees. He struck out three.

    Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander also hit Aaron Judge with a pitch in his worst performance of the season, as Suarez tossed only 49 of 96 pitches for strikes. His control has been slipping since he returned to the rotation in late May -- over his last five starts, Suarez has a 19:13 K:BB in 23 innings despite a superficially strong 2.35 ERA. With Dean Kremer (triceps) closing in on a return and Cade Povich coming off an impressive outing against Atlanta, Suarez could wind up getting bumped to the bullpen once again.     Irvin (5-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 5-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

    Advice: A lack of offensive support gave the right-hander no margin for error, but Irvin did himself no favors by tossing first-pitch strikes to only 11 of the 22 batters he faced and issuing a season high in free passes. In fact, the 27-year-old hadn't walked more than two batters in any 2024 start prior to Tuesday. Irvin will take a 3.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB through 86 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Coors Field. Rotowire.com Today, 6:58 am

    Cecconi (2-5) picked up the win Tuesday, scattering three hits over six scoreless innings in a 5-0 victory over the Nationals. He struck out six without walking a batter.

    Advice: The 24-year-old right-hander put together the best start of his career, retiring the first nine batters he faced and not allowing a runner to get past second base. Cecconi snapped a five-decision losing streak with the performance, while the quality start was his first since April 27 -- which was also the last start in which he didn't serve up a homer.     Munoz escaped with a no-decision in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning win over the Cardinals, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

    Advice: The rookie right-hander wasn't able to build on an impressive performance against the Mets his last time out, and Munoz served up multiple homers for the fourth time in his six big-league starts this season. He's been taken deep 11 times in only 29.2 innings, fueling a 5.76 ERA, but the Marlins' injury issues in the rotation give them few options to replace him.     Lynn came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins, coughing up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

    Advice: The veteran right-hander got taken deep by Jesus Sanchez and Christian Bethancourt, the first time Lynn had served up multiple homers in an outing since April 4. He managed to complete five innings Tuesday for the first time in June, and on the month he's stumbled to a 6.11 ERA, 1.70 WHIOP and 20:7 K:BB through 17,2 innings over four starts.     The Cardinals activated Gibson (personal) from the bereavement list Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

    Advice: Gibson will start Wednesday's game in Miami after being away from the club for a few days to tend to personal matters.     Advice: While Civale kept the Twins scoreless through three innings, he unraveled in the fourth. The 29-year-old surrendered a single, a walk and a pair of doubles to consecutive batters, all with two outs, before being replaced by Kevin Kelly. Tuesday's start marked Civale's first time failing to complete four innings this season, and he hasn't added a tally to the win column since April 9. In 76.1 innings of work, Civale owns a 5.42 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP with 79 strikeouts. He's tentatively scheduled for a road start against the Pirates to end his two-start week.
