      Advice: Duran led off the home half of the first inning with a double and scored the game’s first run on an RBI single off the bat of Tyler O’Neill. He then drove in a run of his own with an RBI single in the eighth inning and scored on an errant pickoff throw.       George Kirby didn’t allow an earned run while working six innings to get a win over the Rangers on Saturday.

      Advice: He did allow an unearned run, and it’s worth pointing out he was the one who made the error. Kirby walked two, which makes this the first game since March 29 that the right-hander has walked more than one hitter in a game. The right-hander made up for it by striking out six in another strong start for the 26-year-old. Kirby has now allowed just four runs in his last four starts, and his ERA has lowered to 3.54, and his career ERA against Texas is a sparkling 1.08.       Thomas went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 4-0 win over the Marlins on Saturday.

      Advice: Thomas doubled and scored a run in the first inning then added a solo home run in the third. The home run was Thomas' second in as many days, and he now has a nine-game hit streak dating back to June 6.       Jackson Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.

      Advice: Merrill launched a 411-foot blast against Jose Quintana for his seventh home run of the season. The rookie now has four home runs in his last three games. All of them have also been solo shots. Merrill was billed as primarily a batting average asset who wouldn’t provide much power, so it’s nice to see him starting to show some pop.       Jack Flaherty threw five scoreless innings in a win over the Astros on Saturday, allowing three hits and striking out six.

      Advice: Flaherty received an anti-inflammatory injection on Monday and had a few extra days of rest to combat a back injury, but he looked good overall on Saturday. His four-seam velocity was down 1.5 mph, so that’s something to keep an eye on, but he induced eight whiffs on 31 swings for a 26 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW.       Salvador Perez (knee) is not in the Royals’ starting lineup for Saturday night’s battle against the Dodgers.

      Advice: The star 34-year-old backstop was removed from Friday’s game due to discomfort in his right knee. He underwent an MRI exam on Saturday — the results of which were very favorable — and Perez is expected to return to the Royals’ lineup in a day or two.
