    • Looking at relief role initially
Junis (shoulder) will be activated from the 60-day injured list this weekend in San Diego but could be used in relief initially, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Officially, the Brewers are saying Junis' role is TBD. However, they've already listed their four probable pitchers for the weekend and his name is not included. Junis could still rejoin the rotation eventually, perhaps as soon as next week, but Carlos F. Rodriguez is getting another start Saturday. The right-handed Junis threw four innings in a simulated game earlier this week, so he's stretched out for a possible long relief appearance this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:43 am

    • Will serve as 27th man
The Cardinals will recall Scott from Triple-A Memphis to serve as their 27th man in Thursday's game versus the Giants, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Cardinals and Giants will both be allowed an extra player for Thursday's contest at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. Scott should be available as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement and will be sent back down to Memphis after the game. Rotowire.com Today, 6:34 am
    • Out again versus lefty
Pederson is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Nationals.

Advice: As usual, Pederson is sitting against a left-hander, as the Nationals are starting southpaw MacKenzie Gore. Ketel Marte will get a day out of the field and serve as Arizona's designated hitter while Blaze Alexander starts at second base. Rotowire.com Today, 6:28 am
    • Swats seventh homer
Winker went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Arizona.

Advice: He delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit in the sixth inning when he drove a Brandon Pfaadt splitter over the fence in left-center field. Winker snapped a 25-game homer drought with the blast, but he wasn't exactly slumping, batting .333 (25-for-75) over that stretch. On the season, the 30-year-old outfielder is slashing .266/.380/.406 with seven homers, 11 steals, 33 RBI and 34 runs in 70 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 am
    • Sitting out Thursday
Perdomo isn't in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Nationals.

Advice: Perdomo had started five straight games and seven of eight since returning from the injured list June 11, but he'll begin the series finale in Washington on the bench. Kevin Newman will handle shortstop for the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 6:24 am

    • Nails down 21st save
Finnegan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over Arizona.

Advice: The right-hander breezed through the Diamondbacks' 5-6-7 hitters on 14 pitches (11 strikes) en route to his eighth straight successful conversion. Finnegan has put together the best first half of his career with a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB through 31.1 innings, but if the Nats fall out of the wild-card picture, he figures to become one of the team's biggest trade chips given that he has just one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025 before reaching free agency. • Out of Arizona lineup
Moreno is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Nationals.

Advice: Moreno started behind the plate each of the last four contests but will get some rest for Thursday's afternoon game. Tucker Barnhart will draw the start at catcher, forming a battery with pitcher Ryne Nelson. Rotowire.com Today, 6:20 am
    • Fans seven in no-decision
Corbin came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: The veteran lefty established a new season high in strikeouts despite tossing only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes, but Corbin left the mound with the Nats in a 1-0 hole before they took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. He's given up three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, and while his 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings over that stretch aren't particularly impressive, they represent a big improvement on his season-long numbers. Corbin will look for his first win since May 10 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 am
    • Day off versus left-hander
Carroll is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Carroll has finally heated up at the dish in reaching base 25 times while adding four stolen bases over his last 12 contests. He'll get some rest Thursday, however, as the Nationals send tough left-hander MacKenzie Gore to the hill. Additionally, Carroll recently overcame a left side injury, so the Diamondbacks were presumably keen on giving him some maintenance. Jake McCarthy will play center field in Thursday's series finale.
